Picking up pieces (WARNING: Sarcastic at times)
Dear DS diary,
Picking up pieces as a two-day snow event gets settled into New England...ugh, snow fatigue:
* It was only a matter of time this week before I felt so stressed over a combination of work pressures, finding a place to put snow, and other stuff that my fuse just exploded. As is often the case, my parents ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. It usually comes to that, because since I have almost no faith in my self-control destressing has been almost impossible.
* To that end, I'm feeling that urge to start playing video golf again...this can't lead to any good, as near as I can tell. Doesn't help that I got a Mario Golf: World Tour game for my 3DS at Christmas...
* Speaking of snow, since it appears that I'm going to get buried by another foot of it: Oh what the heck, we should all get some kind of pugel stick (spell error?), find a U-shaped hill, and have toboggan jousts. Would be appropriate enough since I'm going to lose my marbles anyway...
* So there's some news that NBA commish Adam Silver wants to overhaul the league's playoff format to just division champions and the next 10 with the best records after that. Nice idea but unlikely to fly with owners. More likely: The NBA eventually ends the six-division format (as the NHL has done), goes back to four divisions, and realigns them somewhat. Don't see abolishing the conference format.
* One of my supervisors at work celebrated a birthday yesterday with donuts. He wanted to share, of course, even though I thought I was in trouble when he called me over about it. I took one look...and ran away from them. I feared a retrigger of when I stress ate -- with coffee and donuts -- at a Dunkin' Donuts conveniently placed in a Boston train depot the first time I went through college. The memories just won't go away.

Aw, friend, I know this is ridiculous of me and only a tiny part of what you\'re dealing with, but it just made my heart hurt to hear that even donuts have bad associations for you, they\'re so fun! PM-ing you :)
Biggest problem is my nerves are so frayed -- in particular because we\'ve run out of places to put the snow now, and there\'s the possibility of still more on Thursday -- that nothing felt safe. Under normal circumstances, it\'s more likely the retrigger stays away and I would have had one of those donuts.
So a confession: With the place I was in on Friday, I was REALLY afraid that I would have wanted the whole box. My defenses were that far deep into the Pit of Despair. This is what happens when I\'m stressed out on multiple fronts and don\'t know what to do.
