Phrases that piss me off (just for fun)
10. "Just Sayin" End every sentence with this, really. 9. "On the real" No. No. Not on the real. It's been real, "on the real." For real, yo. 8. "What the hey"Where do I even start with this one? 7. "Catch ya on the flip flop" What does this even mean? Other than the obvious: don’t be my friend. 6. "Rock and Roll" It's time to go. Unless you want to smash up a hotel room and do lines off of supermodels, I'm pretty sure you're just telling me it's time to leave the mall. 5. "No offense, but…" What I'm about to say is going to be strongly offensive. The cousin of "I'm not racist, but..." 4. "Double Yew Tee Eff, Oh Emm Gee or Bee Tee Dubs" Really? Spelling out AIM acronyms in real life? 3. "I totally changed. It's like I did a complete 360." So you spun in a circle? Good for you. You and Ekhart Tolle have truly found the secret to deep insight. 2. "Anyhoooooooo" Self-explanatory. 1. "Literally/Essentially/Extensively" First of all, why is it that anyone who uses these phrases uses them at the wrong time? Example: "I literally died!" Do people understand the difference between the words "literally" and "figuratively"? Also, nobody is more intelligent just because they begin every sentence with "Essentially" or "per se." South Park literally eviscerated this in their dead-on Goth spoofs, per se. Runners up: "Supposably." This isn't even a word. "Your", when the intended word is "You're." My son learned the difference in third grade, but somehow some adult somewhere will write to me, "Your a jerk" or "your not supposed to put tinfoil in the microwave." Someone actually wrote to me once, "Thanks for showing us your human!" What else could I do but laugh? The only grammatically-correct interpretation of the sentence is that I had a cadaver on display, and she appreciated being allowed to view it. "Basically..." People start every third sentence with this word to appear learned. "Maverick" or "Rogue" as political boasts. Seriously, have these people EVER looked up the definition of "Rogue?" Here it is: Noun: An unprincipled, deceitful, and unreliable person; a scoundrel or rascal. A thief. A deliberately dishonest person; a cheat. Adj: 1. Vicious and solitary. "Awesome!" If everything is "awesome," then nothing is. Unnecessarily abbreviated words: Whatev, Boyf, Totes, Ridic..."Chillax!" This word was done about five seconds after it was first used in 1992.Plus, it sounds like a laxative brand."Hella." Followed closely by "Holla." "Irregardless." Regardless of what you may believe, "irregardless" is a nonsense word. "I know, right?" I still love the film "Juno," but I had to forgive it for contributing this dookie to our lexicon. Just sayin'.

LOL....I love it !! Too bad I\'m not up on the lingo...just sayin..
I M totally effin offended...since I only ranked with numbers two and ten -- just sayin\'
My lease favorite phrase -- \"just for fun...LOL\"
oh em gee matt, for reals?? Like literally, you just stole my entire vocab and killed it off. This journal is ridic, and i love the word chillax, don\'t be a hella hater bahahahaha
I feel like number 7 doesn\'t deserve to be on there! Except, \"catch ya on the flip flop\" is a little odd...I prefer, \"catch ya on the flip side.\" I seem so much more learned when I say it like that, don\'t I?
P.S. I\'m a little jelly that I\'ve never gotten to see this neat human you have hidden somewhere!!!!
Somehow, I knew when I wrote this that I had unleashed a torrent of sarcasm, as well as handed over a manual about how to tease me forever hereafter. But I had fun writing it, fo\' real!
No no Matt... haven\'t I taught you anything...
\"But I had fun writing it, Fo\'real YO!\"
You must add the yo in.
Shakes head......
:P
Wait a fricken minute!!.....Did you just insinuate that our replies are sarcastic?! You know what Matt....words hurt!
Not us...but someone I\'m sure..LOL...hahahhahahha...
What? Resurrection after Safire? Hmm...
Elisheva scratches her head and wonders if she can figure out a way to claim that Shakespeare said Oh Em Gee (see http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/04/magazine/04FOB-onlanguage-t.html - On Language column for the week of Saphire\'s death) - oh no, that was Paris Hilton.
:P
what about \"dookie to our lexicon\"? I mean....puleeez! You know what this does? It strips our language of all the inconsequential use of words that either have no meaning, or have been used in a completely non-sensical way...like \"cheesey\". I guess we really do cloud our communications with alot of these kinds of words, but...if we don\'t all we have is \'shit\' and damn\'...words like that are the only \'filler\' we have left. Dang. (Oh, I guess we can still use those fill-ins for profanity without pissing too many people off).
Shoot...I wanted to \'cancel\'....sorry. I wanted to add an edit to my prior comment...my \'least\' favorite...not lease fav...crap. I have to agree with you on the improper use of certain words that are simply annoyances to me, just because they catch my eye and force me to slow the rhythm of my reading. Like your...for the intended contraction of \'you\' and \'are\'...which should read - you\'re. Or, like the improperly used homonyms...like \'sell\' and \'sale\'. An item is \"for sale\".....or, \"I\'d like to sell all of my....\" Only in the deep South will you find the signage in front of very \"up-scale\" businesses proudly announcing their \"End of Season Sell\". Or, when their High Schoolers graduated, the local law office on a main thoroughfare put up a sign \"Congradulations\". Their kids had to be sooooo proud.
But may I ask about the \"chillax\" ? I must have missed that one. Where was I in \'92?
Oh, and for impact above...you could have compounded the ill-use of the word \'your\' by following it with \'suppose\' instead of \'supposed\' -- \"Basically, your suppose to put the cadaver in the trunk, not the closet...Seriously!\" (Did \'seriously\' replace \'totally\' in Valley-girl speak circles?)
I will admit to the lame usage of some of these. I suppose I should look up my words before I use them, but that takes all the fun out of posts like this, doesn\'t it?
I Like the internet terms that I\'ve \'learnt\' here...the ones that are semi-blocked out, but still recognizable...like A-Hole...that would be my favorite:) Or swear words blocked out like F*** You!! They come in handy sometimes!!
Laura expalined the \'chillax\' one to me. I am so slow. But...I wish the one particular one wasn\'t here in this otherwise happy post. One stands out to me and makes me have a queasey feeling in my stummy. I think there are plenty of us who use poor grammar that the one thing I am talking about could be edited out and no loss to the journal....edit your own journal? to make me happy? Would I ask that of you? You betcha...I get ill just remembering ___. But, this is your journal...on your page...about your pet peaves...so, heck...I guess it\'s okay..but probably not therapeutic ~~~~just sayin\'~~~~
Hey....would you mind if we broke in on this journal to talk about our periods?
Don\'t you dare.
hmmmmmm....Sounds like a challenge....
