Pecks of Progress?
I surely do wish that making amends was as easy as offering an apology. Yesterday's attempts to make amends to the flock for frightening them with my latest sunblock experiments didnae go well enough to get the roosting in the chicken condo instead of Hubby's cowboy caddilac last night. Hubby claims he isnae offended by the chicken shit on the hood, but I am. I have a few too many insights on the nitrate content of chicken shit and worried on his behalf about the long term impact on the paint job. It is a purty paint job for a vehicle old enough to have been coveted by 4 generations of family. It is his to sort, but my wife sense wonders if that truck is the most cherished piece of the inheritance his father left him in October 2016.
I coerced the flock into the coop last night and returned to the effort to make amends to the flock with the very first opening of their coop this morning. After I took off the sunblock and left it on the edge of the roost while I played with the youngest feather babies, the elder feather babies made their first daring approaches and pecks at The Blue Hawk before they backed off to act casual about preening their feathers within striking distance of the vicious predator. When I left to get my camera for this installment of the drama, the younger chicks were huddled in the safe zone between the roost and the ladders.

I didnae mean to frighten my feather babies, but I did. Words of apology and acts of contrition didnae diminish their fears a bit. I left the Blue Hawk in their roost window to come in here to post the drama update. Dare I hope I will return to find they have pecked a few sequins off of my sunblock experiment? Just hoping. Give that blue hawk the pecking it deserves, Ladies. The experiment willnae graduate from fashion statement to tool until it has an unladylike number of holes in ^it^.
Amends in progress. . .

ah they'll get over them... could the birds be dishing out 'guilt'?
I'm not sure guilt is in the avian repertoire. I believe they are quite aware of how many things in nature enjoy a good chicken dinner and that chicken eyes see seeds in the dust far more clearly than they see big, bumbling beasts that tower over their heads.
We shall hope that they adjust to the big blue monster through proximity. Leaving bird poop on cars is never a good long term plan. Maybe they regard big blue as crows perceive a scarecrow. Not a chicken, so don't know what their take on this intruder is. Hugs.
they are very cute , arfie~. My coworker has chickens. Good luck with the amends. triple hugs~
Chickens might be the most timid and flighty critters I have ever loved. A chicken can scare a chicken. A napkin falling from a table can look like a fierce predator to them. They arenae critters to take chances. Receive it as an honor if a hen pecks you. That level of trust is rare for them. Might want to avoid the rooster pecks, though. Not all roosters are mean, but treat 'em like strange dogs. Ya just never know.
Chicken shit can be used to make explosives. I definitely don't trust it's long term effects on paint.
My wife used to tell stories about having to get the eggs from her father's chicken coop and how they would attack her in the yard, but she never said anything about chicken shit and explosives . Holy cow!
Flocks do have personalities of their own. A mean rooster can and will lead a flock to mean extremes. I have the pelt of one such rooster on the wall here at the farm from my urban flock. I was somewhere between concerned and grateful when he started attacking grown-ups, but the little bully attacked my grandson. His feathers are still purty three years later.
Military analysts monitor fertilizer plants. A sudden growth of the fertilizer industry is a sign the politicians are gearing up for aggression. Shit is HIGHLY explosive with a little help from shitty intent. Buttttttaaaa. . . It takes more than my 4 little feather babies can digest.
Purty birds......
ChickensQ!!!!!!Q!!
