Very true! If you haven't already, you might consider reading Fitzgerald's essay, "The Crack Up," which is the source of this quote. He wrote it at a very difficult time late in his life, when he was struggling with depression, alcoholism, and debt. Another quote from the essay that stuck with me (paraphrasing here): The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposing ideas in our minds at the same time and still retain the ability to function.
