Pack Rats

My brother was such a pack rat.  For example, he had 20 cans of creamed corn alone.  Who eats that much for a single person?  He had almost the same in pork and beans.  Fortunately my friend Dave loves pork and beans so he took them.  We are going through Don's place a few more times to get the canned goods.  We are taking them to Dave's place as he has a big dining room table where we can sort it all out.  It will be divided between Blair B. (Don's best friend), Carol S. (my close friend), Dave (who helped out so much) and myself.  We will have to pick a day that is convenient for all four of us.
I knew my brother was a paper pack rat but I guess he was a pack rate in everything.  We threw out a lot of his food because they all passed the expiry date.  You would not believe how much mac and cheese packages Don had past the expiry date not just in months but in years.
Don went to the food bank once a week.  I told him Don if you don't need stuff, please don't go.  It looks like he did not need to go.  But Don had undiagnosed Asperger's Syndrome which is a mild form of Autism.  Once he did something, it was his routine.  People with Autism need their routine or they go crazy.
I loved sorting through his picture collection and organizing them properly.  The canned goods is heavy when taking them down the stairs.  He had no elevator in his complex.  On the bright side, they finally finished working on my elevator.  Yah!
Dave and I went to Garry Point to dispose of Don's ashes.  They flew away in the breeze, along the water and on a log.  Its a good place.  I did it with Smokey's ashes as well. The ashes are not the person.  The soul and spirit has continued on its journey.  We are left with a body but the person is not there.
One more memorial service this Saturday.  I am reading my tribute to Don.  I get nervous and start talking a mile per minute.  I have to relax, breathe and slow down.  I am just concerned that I will cry.  I probably will cry.  I miss him so much.  He was such an important person in my life.  I knew I would take it hard but had no idea.  I haven't cried much which has me concerned.  Its interfering with my sleep.  On the bright side  started taking my allergy meds which makes me sleepy, so the sleep is getting better.  I stopped the allergy meds yesterday so we shall see how my sleep situation will be tonight.
I have to babysit today and its for a sleep over.
All the best from DB
