out of town

my brother, who has been staying with me, left a short while ago and he will be gone for a week or so.

He left his dog, Nina, with me.

It has been great having him here with me and it has really shook me up in a good way

and got me excited about living and pursuing things again.

Now that he is gone I find myself and 'my personal rules', my sense of order, coming back to me as a way to cope

with the alone time. I am trying to not go to extremes and I will focus on taking care of Nina

but I realize when I am alone now that I kind of become strict in my own world.

I think I will volunteer for the Treepeople soon if there's a place open.

Who are the Treepeople?

The Treepeople.org is a tree planting non profit here in Los Angeles. They grow and maintain trees in public spaces
all around the county. I have volunteered with them in the mountain public parks as well as locations in the city parks and low income inner city schools playgrounds. It's a great organization. Started by a guy named Andy Lipkis decades ago when he was very very young. It can be a schlep to go to where their projects are - but it's also really fulfilling to plant trees.

That's a nice cause to volunteer for Mark. When my cat, Lucy, died, the vet paid for a tree to be planted in the rainforest in her memory and I thought that was nice and a good way to honor a pet's love.

that is REALLY nice becky! I would hope when I die someone would do that for me. Actually I have see this pod system
where a tree grows out of your plot. Kind of morbid to talk about but it's a nice thought.

I think that's a nice thing to do. When my Grandma died, my dad planted some pretty flowering trees next to the gravestones and in the Spring they bloom beautifully.
