OPPORTUNITIES TURNED DOWN
25 days, but who's counting?? My husband finally got home; he's been gone most of the last few weeks, and tonight we had a nice dinner together. Enjoyable! The week was rough workwise - extremely busy. In this economy, though, I'm thankful to have a position... I turned down another casino opportunity to watch a slot tournament someone was in... somehow I don't think I would have just "watched", but I don't want to underestimate my commitment either. I just don't want to put myself in that environment and test it, make myself vulnerable and start all over!! It seems all of this casino stuff is coming up lately with people... on one hand, people are saying they are watching every penny due to the economy, but then they seem to have money for the casinos. Don't quite understand it. I mentioned before a good friend moved to Israel to be with her husband; well, I knew a while back in my gut that it was not going to work between them... as it turned out, as I always suspected the guy has a serious gambling problem! She grossly underplayed it for a long time, but now the truth came out. She is back in the states and cannot live with what he has been doing; thousands and thousands of dollars; can't get his feet on the ground, etc. She & I also used to go to casinos but relatively speaking our gambling was not as severe, though it still was a major addiction, at least for me... I'm soo glad my friend is back and can start her life again... he really is not stable. It made me think again about how many areas are affected when this addiction takes over. It's sad; heartbreaking for the family, but only he can make the changes. I've learned so much from DS and everyone's thoughts. Just for today, I WILL NOT GAMBLE!Thank you all,Smokeygirl

Big Congrats on 25 days gf!!!
WOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! That is fantastic!
Sooo proud of you that you passed up the opportunity to \"watch\" a slot tournament. The only slot tournament I was ever in was just people hitting the button as fast as they could for a minute or two. I don\'t know how much fun that would be to watch LOL....glad you didn\'t do it! It is sad to think of how many lives, how many marriages, dreams have been shattered by this addiction....and that is why...just for today, I will not gamble.
Love ya..Dianne :-)
woo wee. This addiction really is insidious. It leaks into so many peoples lives. I can\'t believe they have a slot tournament. That is crazy - of all the stupid ways to get you into the casino. I am so glad you didn\'t go.
Having your hubby back will be lovely - I know when mine returns after beign away it grounds me. I miss him so much when he is away.
Your friend - I am so sorry for her this is a difficult thing to deal with - I hope she is surrounded by support.
Hugs and blessings to you today my friend 25 days is excellent. Suzi

Congratulations on 25 days!! Hope you and your husband have a great day today & I am glad your friend at least has you, someone that understands the destructions of addiction
Thanks, Weirleigh,
I sure appreciate the support... I am very worried about my friend... it\'s so rough for her, but you\'re right, I have an understanding now of the destruction so I can try to help her. Hope you are doing well; I haven\'t seen too many of your posts... heard you got a new look - hope to see a new picture. :] Have a great day,
Smokeygirl
Wow 25 days is awesome I still struggle with getting days together but I will keep fighting.....I know this addiction will kill me eventually from insanity...I need to keep onj the bandwagon with that and other addictions...I know I cannot have one of anything especially lottery tickets....I just begun counseling for my gambling and it seems to help...hang in there I know if I do everything will get better...Today I will not gamble
Thank you - yes, keep fighting - it really does feel better not gambling.. I did have a few months under my belt before after 10 years of gambling - and then blew it, but we can only continue trying, one day at a time. I truly know the meaning of those words now.
Thank you for your kind words - Smokeygirl
