Only The Start
About 2 Months ago, I had extreme pain on the right side of my face. I naturally, thought I had some tooth ache or wisdom tooth pain. I took Excedrin Extra Strength. After a few weeks the pain kept coming back again and again only it was more severe pain, I also noticed a striking stabbing migraine type pain around my temple radiating towards the forehead and top of my head. I never ever get migraines or headaches unless there is a clear reason. (Dehydrated, lack of food etc.)
After more weeks went on and this pain that was unbearable, and unmanageable with OTC pain meds. I went to the ER. 6 different doctors told me the same thing.... I have Trigeminal Neuralgia.
Being a person who is healthy, never have any medical issues and training to run a marathon, I took this as a shock. Could not believe, someone so healthy has something like this wrong with her. Thoughts poured through, how could this even be... HOW did this happen to me.
They gave me 100 mg of Tegertol which I'm sorry but might as well be nothing because it doesn't work for me at all, just makes me have zero appetite to eat. I have to call a Neurologist today and get in hoping this week or next.
I'm pretty scared, I've read some pretty intense things about this disorder, what it can develop into, Things like MS, Tumors, etc. Which I'm sure is the 1-10 percent chance of happening... I'm sure it can be controlled in most cases.
At least I hope. So here is a start to this journey.

It's been 4 months, the tegratol should be working by now. I was diagnosed a year ago. It's been really hard to deal with. Tegratol did work for me, for 6 glorious months I was pain free! In May pain came back! I'm back on tegratol and pain is almost gone but not quite, the pain I get is tolerable. To make you feel a bit better, you don't develop ms from TN or tumors. They can be the cause of your TN but you don't develop MS or Tumors from having TN. Any time you have any questions or just need someone to talk to who know what you're going through I'm evadecember
