Online dating - any experience on your part?

Any advice on online dating?  I just spent some time using Plenty of Fish chat line.  After the chat, the guy text me as well a few times.  I told him I did not like to text.  I have had enough conversations?  How do I stop the entire thing as I am not interested in him anymore.  I have had enough.  Enough is enough.  I am not a rude person and like to use my manners.  I don't know what the protocol is on the online dating sites.  I use caution and don't blurt out personal information.  i am just trying to get to know someone.  I am getting so discouraged and am thinking of going back to the natural way by meeting someone face to face.  I am not discouraged about not meeting someone as I chat to a lot of guys.  Its the entire process that I don't like so much.  You have to look at a lot of pictures.  If you like someone than you send them a flirt.  if they like you back, the next step is chatting.  If you like that step then the next step is either meeting for a coffee date or give them your phone number and actually speak on the phone.  Its a long process just to meet someone.  I don't like the long process.
Have any one of you had any experiences  this way?  I would like to know about it.
