One Step At A Time
I was dreading today.
Today I had to drive an hour into the city and to Jeff's employer to pick up all of his belongings. Jeff had been a stretch press mechanic for Boeing and Spirit Aerospace for over 25 years. He was very good at what he did and loved to problem solve. Especially when it meant getting in the grease of the machine.
It took me almost a month to get things coordinated to get his things. This isn't the typical employer where you just go in the front door with boxes and collect what is on the desk and shelves. No, this is a high security place where, when all tools and belongings had been gathered by the manager, they had to be taken through security and inspected before being put on a pallet to be taken to a pickup area. Then, I could go wait outside guard shack #13 for someone to bring that pallet of tools and belongs to me. And as I'm sitting there with my nephew, who drove me in his truck to get Jeff's belongings, it hits me - How do I know that I am even getting all of his things? How do I know that some of Jeff isn't still in there? Would anyone go through his stuff and take what they wanted, just because they could? And then the epiphany * SO WHAT IF THEY DID??? I wouldn't even know it. I didn't know what he had and what he didnt' have and so what if they did? Maybe they were suppose to have it if someone took something. Or better yet, maybe I got everything that he had at his job. And so, Justin loaded it into the truck bed and we were headed home. And that door on Jeff's life was closed. Locked. Bolted like a vault. It was over.
Tomorrow I have another big step to take. I am going to see an attorney who is considering representing me with Jeff's case of malpractice against the hospital and doctors who took a hypocritical oath to help others and failed. I have to say this so everyone knows, its not about the money, if any may come of it. It is about not allowing this tragedy to happen to families like yours or your neighbors, or even my worst enemy. I have to see if someone failed at their job and caused my husband to be taken from me forever. And if a judge and jury of my peers tells me that it was just a tragedy but nobody's fault, I can live with it. What I can not live with is that if I don't do this and the hospital and/or doctors and nurses failed and they are not stopped, that some other woman and her children and grandchildren may suffer each day like I am now, missing the love of my life. That I can not allow.
I have so many "One Step At A Time"'s to take in the near future. And I know that this is a safe place for me to come and vent or rejoice or cry. And I thank GOD for leading me here and YOU all for allowing me to be a part of it.

Hoping there were some treasures in the things you picked up!! And best of luck with your court thing. I thought long and hard about when my wife\'s attending doctor told her that her best bet would be to see a shrink, that she was a chronic worrier. Six months later she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.
DS is the right place, glad you\'re here. Hugs, Kip.
Good luck with everything. You are in my thoughts. Hugs, Dawn
Thank you Kip and Dawn. I do appreciate it.

Prayers for wisdom and discernment in your battle. Keep your chin up and hugs sent your way...
