One more snake!
Yep, I'm coming back to life. Annie Oakley rides again.
I went for a walk with my husband last night -- 2 miles, total. About halfway through and a few minutes after sunset, we crossed paths with a copperhead. Bumbles walked right over the snake. Don't know why the snake didn't bite the Bum, but Bum only served to rile the snake. I had my pistol out before Tim ever saw the copperhead -- he asked me what I was doing, so I said, "Snake." As soon as Bum Bum was clear, I shot the snake smack dab in the head. Tim never even pulled his pistol out of the holster. The snake measured 31", which is nice sized for a copperhead. I took a couple of photos. I'd love to post them on here, but I don't know how a a photo of a snake with a gaping hole in it's head would fly. I emailed my daughter a photo. She be proud o her pistol packin' mama. She's seen me too fatigued and too weak to even hold a pistol up. I was strong and steady last night.
That was the first time I had fired a weapon since I shot that chicken snake in August of 2014. So, I told Tim that I really should do a little target practicing. (Snake heads are really small targets -- this one was only slightly bigger in diameter than a quarter.). He said, "Shooting from 15 to 20 feet away and hitting like that? there's no way target practice can make it any better than that! You'd be wastin' ammo." Yeah, high praise coming from a retired Special Forces light weapons specialist, even if he is my husband!
But, here's the kicker: There is this man at our church (yes, the same church I hate, but this man is a sweetie) who has a friend that covers archery bows with copperhead and rattlesnake hides, then sells them. This man has been in our home and has seen my rattlesnake hide. He asked us that if we ever had any snake hides that we don't want, if we would bring them to him so that he could give them to his friend. This was a nice clean head shot with no damaged to the body, so Tim skinned my copperhead and we are going to deliver this skin to our friend at church Sunday morning. I want to see the faces of the male supremacists there if word gets out about who shot this snake and the marksmanship required! I don't want to brag or act prideful. I just want to know, "Who wants to be buried with his boots on?"
Oh, and I got my new eyeglasses yesterday morning. They have been proven. I can't complain.

Dang, girl! See there\'s a reason the Cabela\'s catalog has a whole line of clothes for women now! I used to be a good shot, but I shake a lot now. I\'m pleased you managed to hit the snake without shaking like a leaf. You are a wonder! I would love to be at your church on Sunday to see this go down. By the way, Cabela\'s has a camo high chair if you have any babies in your life who need a place to put their cheerios and rest their rifles. You go, girl!
LOL Heather!!
Yep, Annie!! You go girl. What a shot! And you\'ve been in a crash. I\'m surprised you were alert enough to get a proper aim, then shoot, and HIT! In the head!! Gotta say, you do us women proud!! I thank ye!!
Bumble head just prolly had his life saved by his wife. He really needs to do some soul searching about the \"subservient sex\". Doncha think. You just saved his sorry butt, oh weak one!! I\'d hang the snake skin around the front door post just to remind him when he walks in the house that if you could shoot something the size of a quarter, and hit it, that maybe he should invest in some helmets........!!!!
YOU GO! xo
You\'re a bad ass!! Nuff said
Geez I wouldn\'t want to drop in on you for a surprise visit....Annie quickdraw.lol! I know how quick and dangerous snakes can be.My husband is a peaceful man but has been forced to kill snakes a couple of times, many yrs ago when we lived down south on a farm .We have Taipans up here in the north and they are one of the quickest and most venomous snakes in the world. We live in the burbs though so never see any.We did have a huge python behind the shed but left if alone and it moved on.I can\'t wait to hear about the reaction at church.I hope you make sure there are plenty of those SUPREME males listening in.ha ha .
One shot. One kill. Nice!
