On Your Mark. . .

The pullets spent their first night in the coop last night. I feel odd knowing I won't have to go kneel in the mud in the dawn's early light to let them out of the raptor cage which served as their gypsy rigged brooding chamber. Theorietically, I get to watch from the ramshackle dining room windows while they spring from their luxury roost and begin their daily scratch in their predator resistant enclosure. Theoretically. . . Theory behaves so well on paper. . . Testing, one, two, three. Hurry sunrise. . . The show must go on. . .

The decorator touches still need doing, but I worked myself into a manic lather in the push to protect my puzzle project from toy stealing honey-doers while staying on track with the need to get the pullets moved from their out-grown brooding chamber. Life willing, I believe I will dedicate today to calming exercises. Got my starting gun out. . .

I like this sitting business but I suspect you may have a little trouble keeping still that long. Triple hugs

Driving, not to be confused with commuting, has always been high on my effective calming tool list. It is mere coincidence that I came back with 10 more feather babies, plus a proper brooding cage which has now taken up a proper place on the dining room table. Don't worry, I left plenty of room for people plates. The chicken store I drove to had a generous variety of breeds to choose from. When I told the cashier I wanted a surprise package, a bored looking teenager got a sudden twinkle in her eye and jumped to be of service. She promised she had packed me some good surprises when she handed me the cardboard carrying box.

I didn't sneak a peek until I had the cage set up and was ready to turn the carrying box over on its side and let them discover their new world. We see what grows.

Not to burst any Disney dreams, but sometimes good chicken mommies eat their babies. Their brood mates, too. Hey, meat is meat. . .
