On the road again
It's good to know you on the road of life.
After this morning's post, I tried to stay solid, with an educated insightful perspective but ultimately I started to slip and slide a bit with my interactions with people. I know how to behave but there are rubs of course which for some reason set my steadiness adrift and the my mood and self regard tanks. It's ok though. I know what to do. Writing here is a luxury with which I regroup and get back in the saddle. My therapist once said to me, 'you're smart enough to figure things out, but can you sustain it?' That being said, it was a long time ago and I've learned much more than I ever thought would happen and I feel pretty determined to keep the mood in check with some beliefs.
And maybe just reliably checking in here like this is part of my self therapeutic country song... I'll get back 'on the road again' of life. Have a good day folks!! I hope your days end well!! It's now the usual routine for me.. meal prep service and evening meal and then back to the rectory.

I think that we all sustain it the best that we can and then get back up and dust ourselves off when we need to

i used to think of sustainable mental health as a rigid iron wall which never changed. somewhere along the way i started to think of it as a sea wall or california high rise which is designed to move with the elements. like a mighty sequoia, there is great sustainability in being flexible enough to move with the wind and other variables of life.
i once worked with a roman catholic spiritual advisor who shared my background in alanon. we both believed that daily maintenance is the key to sustainable mental/spiritual health. emphasis on "daily." it is not a once in a lifetime proposition.
