Odds and ends
We have had some very cold weather lately which is not unusual for where I live. Last week the night time temps were below zero nearly every day. From 9 below to 16 below…I woke up to frost on the windows that looks like trees.
It has warmed up the last few days with temps in the low 30’s. Very comfortable compared to last week. Looked out the window at a long, skinny, icicle hanging off the roof and a tiny bird landed on it and slowly slid down to the bottom of it and drank the drops of water falling off the pointed end as it melted.. I wished I had my camera at the time.
I had never seen a possum in this area until today. They were never known for being this far north.. We saw one eating seeds on the ground below our bird feeders today. He walked gingerly on the snow. I don't think he liked the snow at all...The possum was quite sociable. He walked up the steps on the front deck and stood in front of the door as if to say hello. So we opened the door and said hello back and then we gave him some food out of the kitchen.
Our dog is finally home from the doggy hospital where he spent 5 nights. We call him our miracle dog and that's a story for another journal because it's quite long. He is still on medication but is doing extremely well and gaining every day.

Possums love dry cat food. They're basically a cat.
What a sweet possum & so nice of you to open your door & give it some food. I'm glad the weather was more comfortable for u today. I'm glad your dog is home & I'm sorry your dog had to stay at the dog hospital. Hugs & tu for sharing.
My son is afraid of possums & they have come in our backyard several times. I don't mind possums & think they r cute but I'm not sure if I would want to be face to face with one so I think u r brave but nice to do that for the possum.
oh I see possums here all the time...spattered on roads too....they are city critters as much as country critters...
really cold out there in Maine.....I do dress well for cold but it can be a big drag too if you have to work in it and the windchill is below zero as well
Icr. Possums are super common here too. It's like finding a bad buggy at Walmart. Lol. You're going to see a couple every day.
Thankyou carlyj1202. Dog is able to walk again and his eyesight is improving every day. Today, we had him chase away some squirrels that were after the food in our bird feeders. He would not have been able to do that 2 weeks ago so he is getting better.

Thanks Bill Today the temp went all the way up to 39 so I was outside with just a t shirt shoveling packed snow and ice on my driveway.
Thanks Nutin_Special...I already have a problem with to many squirrels so I hope they don;t reproduce as fast as the squirrels do lol

My son thinks that possums look like big rats too & that is why he is afraid of them & he doesn't like that but he has held his friend's pet rat before. Hugs
Those pictures are amazing. Frosty windows here too. That cold blast is a gift from Canada, tariff free too. hehehe Hope the warming up will continue. We have been having the sub zero temperature too. Still more to come. Glad doggy is doing better. Hugs and stay warm.

OMG that Icicle tree on your window it’s really cool looking and it’s so cool that you saw a bird drinking the drops coming off of it.
Possums are good for the environment, even though you don’t see them all that often I’m sure it was just looking for some food. I see them every now and then even here in the city and unless you antagonize them, they will not hurt you..
It’s funny, everybody’s always trying to keep the squirrels out of their birdfeeders, I actually put extra birdseed on the ground and throw peanuts around for all the squirrels that visit my yard, they are gods creatures also :-)
PS i’m glad that your dog is finally home from the hospital and hope he makes a full recovery :-)
