odds and ends

I have two young pear trees and the youngest flowered for the first time this year but did not produce very many. I only saw one bee all spring so I helped him out by pollinating some by hand. As of this moment, I have some tiny little pears started on the older tree but none on the youngest.

On another note.  I have a sparrow sitting on eggs inside my shop. I hope they all hatch.

I had several new visitors to my bird feeders. Two small whitish squirrels have been feeding on the seeds I dump on the ground for the ground feeders.  They have black ears. They are slightly bigger than a chipmunk but smaller than a red squirrel.   I googled photos of squirrels but could not find anything that looked similar… I know my squirrels quite well but I have never seen anything like them in my life. I will try to get a good photo of them.

Every day is a new adventure in my life!  There is always something that makes me smile!  :)

If I had to describe my life in one word, it would be with this song:

Cute little rascal. The deer got in my yard and devoured my apple tree last week. :o(

I bet those pears are delicious. Your little squirrel is cute! The squirrels here ate all the mulberry's. Our squirrels are brown and I have never seen the color in your picture before. Love sitting on the porch with coffee in the morning and watch the animals and listen to the birds! Do you get many cardinals?

@ Broken_Bridges72 I have only had one pear off one of the two trees and I think it was two or three years ago and
yes! it was the most delicious pear I ever ate.
There are not many cardinels up this far but I have two pairs coming to my feeders. I love seeing them. They are so pretty.
The first thing I do in the morning is watch my birds and squirrels, out the kitchen window, while sipping on a coffee. Years ago, I would ignore my surroundings but now that I am older, it's those seemingly insignificant things in my life that give me pleasure and make me feel like I am an active part of the whole....if that makes sense.

@ Iamheretoo ..... Reminds me of the time, last fall, when I saw a deer behind my house, at the edge of the woods, and he was eating apples that had fallen off an apple tree so when most of the apples were gone, I started picking up bags of apples at the grocery store and leaving them for the deer. Every morning I would check and see the apples were gone so I thought the deer had eaten them. Late one day, I went out back to throw some more apples on the ground and I saw a couple of squirrels stealing all the apples! I was pissed....but then I laughed. All this time, I thought deer were eating them when it was the squirrels all along. I had been fooled into believing I had deer coming to visit me! Funny.

@ Mid! I totally agree!

@ Bilwfriend It could be a mix. When you look at them close up, you can barely see a very light shade of grey.
I am a fan of Kenny Rankin but I think Helen Reddy sings his song better then he does.

They are soooo cute... It's nice that you are good to them... I love the birds and the squirrels as well... I see all of the wee ones running around now... I put out peanuts but they're not the healthiest for them... I put out grapes as well which are great for them but they prefer the nuts... lol... xo

We have a lot of squirrels around the park and the wooded lot. They are so cute and smart. I love to sit on a tree stump and knit. Nice. I love pears right off the tree. My ex father in law had a beautiful garden full of fruit trees and veggies. His wife made him sell the place and that was the end of that. I watch the birds flying around in the early morning hours. Hugs and stay safe.

Thankyou mujicaptsd!

@ SunCloudJD squirrels love peanuts! I buy them when I can get them cheap at the local liquidation store. It keeps the squirrels occupied so the birds can eat in peace.

@ Atpeacemary Those are wonderful memories! It's ironic bit I dislike store pears but if I grow it myself, I love them!.

@ iamheretoo Awww! I am sorry to hear that. I wish I could send you some of mine.

I saw another missing piece to the puzzle today. which came in the form of a third squirrel which is the same size as the two white ones.....so these are young squirrels of the same litter. so two of them are white or mostly white and the third one is all grey...so these are grey squirrels and I think I know who the mother is. She sometimes shows up with the little ones and eats whatever is on the ground. Lucky for me, she stays away from the feeders.

These are not albino because they have dark eyes whereas albinos have red or pink eyes....from what I researched...but they are awful cute just the same :)

I love hearing that the research is so interesting for finding out nature's answer - and it's fun watching the little ones grow up. That's their home sweet home

@ billwfriend I actually think there are four with two being all dark grey but they are hard to keep track of because they run around the tree so fast....well, you know how kids are? :)

@ Mid Yes that's one thing I love about the internet. I can find the answers to almost anything!
