November 17, 2010 - @#$@ it, I got a parking ticket....
I cannot believe the City of Buffalo! They got really good timing - thats for sure. I got in at 7:30 on the dot and I saw a few trucks on the side of Linwood ave. Never even thought anything of it. All kinds of people park on the side. No one told me that they were paving today. Security claimed that they paged overhead to have us move our cars or else they would be towed and ticketed. I cannot hear overhead because of the area in the hospital I work in does not carry over loud enough. I went into Sonja's office and she mentioned it at about 10am. I freaked out, grabbed my keys and walked to the end of Lafayette ave to see that my car - was gone and towed. I raised my arms and ran back into the hospital and called security. they said they towed the cars to another street. At the beginning I thought they towed them to a lot. that would have cost me a ton of $$ to get the thing out. They claim that they had signs that said "no standing" That is very misleading, thats for sure and it should have read "no parking". I went down to security and bitched about it. Apparently, the City of Buffalo did not have to tell the hospital they were doing this and only gave them 15 minute warning to page overhead at 7:45-8am. Many heard it. I am not happy with some of my co workers because they should have came in and mentioned if I was parking on linwood and to move it (I would have said something to them). Whatever. anyways. At least the car was towed to another street and not in a lot. At 3:45pm today, I got a ride from security (they did that as a courtesy for us). There was another physician in the front seat looking for his car too. He happened to be in the cath lab and said you can hear nothing in there. My car was on delavan and was happy to see that the car was safe and sound for the day. Sure enough the orange envelope was flapping in the breeze but when I looked at the ticket, it only said I owed $35.00 and not the $150.00 towing charge they told security about. I wonder if security came around to all of our cars and took that ticket off. I will have to check on that.
All day with everything happening seem to be 10x worse than it really was. People looking to have their classes on their transcripts. Geez...what do they think this is our only job. NOT! I have school internship scheduling to do. Then the nurse educators expect to have their people entered in for glucometer (a sugar check) on their transcripts before the lab has to enter their badge #'s. Talent Management does not connect to other systems. Ahhh....don't get me started! I am glad its 6pm. I am still kinda stressed about what happened today. A good nights sleep will do the trick. I can't park on that street the rest of the week, so I have to walk alittle farther.

That sucks about your car. At least they didn\'t take it to a lot where you had to pay to get it out. $35 isn\'t too bad. They really should have let you know though. That wasn\'t nice at all. Sorry work was so bad today. The day is over though and hopefully it will be better tomorrow.
i guess, all things considered, it could have been worse. it always can be worse,i suppose. hopefully you have gotten a good night sleep and start fresh in the am- think of it as the extra walk is refreshing and mind clearing-joanne
I found out today that the city of buffalo will be billing us for the tows. about $150.00 a piece. Parked across the street near the circle across from the hospital.
I agree Jen, that sucks! They should have notified the Hospital a week before hand that they were going to pave the street.
I was told that the \"no standing\" signs were there on Monday. Well, why didn\'t they inform us on tuesday that there is a possibility that they would be paving the street. I was told by our CEO to mail the ticket to a woman in the parking violation bureau downtown so the ones affected will be going to court at the same time. The towing charge cannot be fought though the parking ticket cannot. This happened yesterday and I am still burned about it.
Apparently the \"no standing signs were ripped off by the 6:30am starting people. There was no sign where I was parked. when I got here yesterday at 7:35am, there was not a soul around to tell me to move the car.
I also heard that they do not have to notify the hospital security they were doing this. Its all about $$, thats for sure.
Good gracious!! That has to be the worse setup on record!! No wonder your stressed!! I hope you have a nice relaxing evening somehow. Take care, hugs Cat
Sorry to hear of this, Jen. Don\'t let it get you down...the last thing you need is more stress!!
COMMUNICATION is a BIG PROBLEM in every walk of life, down to the simplest pieces of information. Especially the casual attitude among medical folks & their inconsistencies...blah, blah, blah. Be happy, Gene
