Not sure how I should feel...Retirement?

Yesterday I spoke to the company who does my IRA, and I was told that if I maintain my lifestyle and if I retire now from my part time job, that I will be okay.  I will be 62 later this year.  With my problems, there's no way I can wait until 65, 66 or 67.

I am an active person but I don't know why I am so scared to death about retirement---I guess I will feel like my life will be over and I will have a new life, so it's fear of the unknown.

I'm afraid I'll be even more lonely, bored, will sleep late every day, no agenda, etc.  I am fighting these feelings, for instance, this coming Monday I am off of my part time job, so I filled the day with an Art class in the morning near my house, a doctor visit, and then my counseling.  That would be one day out of the week that i'd be busy.  I'll have to find 4 other days worth of things to do, I like to not do anything on weekends expect for pleasure things.

I tried to look for another part time job, but it's practically impossible for an older woman to get get a part time job, or ANY job now.  So I won't be working at all.  I'm done with work, I paid my dues.

I should be happy and excited.  Instead, I'm scared to death and insecure and have all these emotional feelings.

Hugs, Maria. Have you considered volunteering? That would be a rewarding way to fill the other four days of the week.

Good luck if you should choose to retire, I'm sure you can find things to occupy your days, just be grateful that you were smart enough to prepare for the future and will be able to retire if you choose. I'm jealous, I'll always have to work till I drop, lol

Yes volunteering would be great. My house & property keeps me pretty busy & spring gardening, but I could spare a few days. An animal rehabilitation centre just opened in our area. I plan to submit application to volunteer. Find something you like & do some research. Or if you can afford it, travel, see the world. Somebody told me you have to keep active to live longer. Hugs!
