Not looking forward to this much
Dear DS diary,
I had some ideas of how I wanted to work through 2015 so I could at least land a self-supporting job and hopefully get a place of my own eventually. This needs to be reracked after the news that I got late yesterday at work.
It's not a secret anymore that the owner of the pharmacy where I work isn't hiring anybody to replace the technician who left late last year (it's been a little over a month now). There's a problem with that: It leaves us short-staffed, and while I've been trying to do what I can it's pretty clear that we haven't been keeping up much recently. My immediate supervisor has been complaining about that a lot this week, especially after my mother and myself both had to miss a day last week when we both got the flu in tandem; it was a nasty one.
Put very simply, the end result is that it's now a lock that I'll be working every weekday. There are things that I do specifically for the retail side of the pharmacy that will be moved up a day so that there is more time for me to help on my immediate supervisor's side.
This will mean a little more money, but it also means trouble for what I want to do regarding working with my life coach about getting something better...and then there's this dream I have of running a 5K this year (a friend has said she feels it's an awesome idea). It means trouble because I now have less time, effective next week, to work on what I need to do to make these things happen...and I'm feeling some strain from that already.
My life coach isn't on a set deadline schedule, which helps, but I still feel worried...like I'm having some doubts about whether everything will be okay. I try to be optimistic but it's not my strongest suit...
...I just feel scared.

I hope once you are into the swing of working more often and if you are working weekdays, maybe you will have time on the weekends to get some of the things accomplished that youve been working towards. Not sure how tired you are after work, but I imagine it is quite tired especially when you dont sleep well. Maybe you could pick a day or two through the week and then the weekend to keep up with your running to work towards your goal of the 5k. It is just the beginning of the year so will keep you in my thoughts that things work out.

The good thing about it is that it is early in the year, you\'re totally correct about that. But I\'m concerned about how my body is reacting to the extra stress: I had to cover for someone yesterday, and we had one of those poop-hit-the-fan kind of days that made it very difficult to get much accomplished. I knew I wasn\'t okay when I left after that half-day session, and I was still feeling some effects today. I do get to see my life coach tomorrow so the concerns will come out to him them, but it still leaves me...in a difficult place.
In the hug you sent me, did you also say something about going back to school? What field are you going to study for in school? Where do you plan on working after you leave the pharmacy someday?
Yes, it will be tough on you to adjust to working full-time, but I think you will do just fine. I think you just really need to take care of yourself and manage stress. I know you already exercise, but I also recommend yoga, a healthy diet, and meditation. Meditation causes plastic changes in the brain; it improves your mood, concentration, working memory, etc and it also helps to relieve stress. In one of my books that I read last night, you can notice improvements in concentration after only 3 hours of meditation. After 11 hours, physical changes in the brain can even be see on an MRI. This is inspiring me to start meditating again, and I hope you will start meditating, too.
Also, on whatever days you have off from work, please take care of yourself. Relax at home or go do something fun. Maybe you can occasionally reward yourself by buying something nice with the extra money you made. Just don\'t overspend and develop a shopping addiction problem like me.
Its easy to let fear of the unknown overwhelm us (dealing with some of that myself this week) Just do some time management stuff and think about how you can rework your schedule to be able to accommodate your personal time better.
Its new and its making you \"panic\" just take a breathe and look at it logically and see where you can adjust.
love and hugs
