New Chicks

8 of the 10 new chicks on the block. For critters with such a strong flocking instinct, it sure is hard to get these guys all in the same place, saying, "Cheese" in unison. Trust me. The missing duo is just as cute as their brood mates.

Clean up is in progress for both the chicken coop and the campsite at the south end of the test field. The cabin tent was a minor disaster. The winds here do get formidable and snapped the top stakes right out of the ground after the rains softened the soil enough to give the scanty organic matter some room to manuever. The base pegs held tight, so at least the mess was where I left it, but untangling the guy strings and excavating for the goodies that were inside the collapsed tent was quite an adventure in spelunking. Had I been inside the tent instead of playing with my puzzle pallet, I could/would have addressed the problems as they arose and prevented the disaster, but. . . Sorry tent puzzle. . . You are only a one box puzzle and I've wrestled with your kind before. The 13 box puzzle won. No contest.

But at this stage, the clean-up of the mess at the camp site is a welcome distraction. It is time for the decorator touches and aesthetics arenae my strong suit. I do best with structure. To my senses, a solid structure is far more interesting than lace and fluff. Don't ask me to remember designer names. If I even get a vote on my pitiful name recall skills, I've got better things to do with my neural storage capacity. You won't find me in the name-dropper circles of any event. Drop on good buddies, drop on. Get it out of your system before you approach my Tinker's Den.

It still feels odd to be sitting here watching the sunrise with dry knees. In their new digs, the alleged pullets can leave the roost whenever, however they desire. For now, the brood box is still on the dining room table, but I will move the brood box to the condo in the next few days or so. Whenever the spirit moves me.

PDM (Product Development Manager, formerly AB) has been negotiating with a potential candidate for her product development department. They began fine tuning the extraction room for the work Saturday. They ran their first soap test run last night. Dare I peek while they sleep? As the spirit moves me. . . Letting God lead the dance. Might be funner to let it be a surprise when PDM is ready to give me her official grand tour.

On this job site, the dining room table has been a natural shoe in for business confrences. The chicks have made most excellent committee directors. They keep us well reminded that committees are proof that none of us is as stupid as all of us.

Oh go peek...Honey soap sounds fabulous! Also diabetic friendly.

I am sorry about the tent collapse though I have been watching radar regularly I must have missed a curl. It does seem that Pecos Bill has fell apart to scattered showers here. We are too cold for his taste still in the 50's.
I am glad you weren't in the tent during the winds.

The babies are adorable maybe instead of saying cheese, corn might have worked better? I don't know to much about their baby nature.

Coffee is on Good morning.

The clouds are just grey here hiding the sunrise. It's there I am sure.

Adorable picture Arfie. Warming my heart right up this morning.

I second Jewells’ comments. Some temptations are too exciting to miss. Sneak a peek, lol.

Oh how I don’t miss those southern winds but we get those knock down blow you away ones off the bluffs here so it’s much the same. Although no red-brown dust storms thankfully. Except for my Jetta, all our vehicles are black and I don’t miss waking up the morning after just washing my truck a sand covered vehicle.

Sorry your tent collapsed but I’m glad the chick condos survived.

Hugs & love!

Not my first tent rodeo. I knew I was quite literally up against stiff odds putting a cabin tent up here.In this patch of Planet Earth, At this particular job site, I watch the wind forecasts far more closely than the rain forecasts. Wet I can handle. Flying Nun imitations, not so much. Due to a quirk of geology, the winds here out-blow The Windy City's gusts off Lake Michigan, rain or shine. The Windy City sits on a shoreline. A few short epochs ago, This *was* a lake. A big one. I don't believe the lake has quite forgotten it is a lake, despite the expanding deserts. Whether this particular tent puzzle is salvageable remains to be seen, but either way, it doesn't feel like my last.

The Chicken Condo is looking more solid than the 100 year old ranch shack I have been sleeping in. I just might end up giving roosting a shot. This morning finds me preparing to plant mint and bougainvillea on the west wall. The pullets have discovered the nummy treats garden tools turn up. They still prefer the safety inside the predator resistant enclosure, but. . . The ice cream truck is a powerful temptation.

Names? The center grayish /mottled on with the beak that starts as yellow blending to orange-sh looks like a "Squieziks" to me.
But what's in a name.

Still not all the way sure, but I'm betting Squieziks is a Japanese Silkie. Note the feathers on her legs. Kinda hope so. Silkies have been called, "The lap dogs of the chicken world." The one I have known bond way deeper than the average feather brain. Many professional breeders keep silkies around as brooding nursemaids. The yellow and black chick is Little Richard. She sings like Little Richard and looks like she might have a feather crown to match. She is hemmed in by Banjo and Rhody. Names still brewing for the rest.

I oughta know how long it takes a chick to hatch, but I don't. Haven't gotten that far yet. Ya oughta be able to google it.
