Nana Day 2
Today I got to spend more time with my Nana. I'm glad. I went with her to get her hair done and then we went out to lunch. I woke up around 8am, and spent almost the entire time from 8am to 5pm with her today. I did go out to breakfast with my uncle, which was nice as well. He and my Aunt Lucille have been married for 15 years now. My Aunt Lucille has been having problems with my Nana, probably because it's her mother and that's the way moms and daughters are. I know, since my mom and I get that way too sometimes. It's just part of life... families fight and get like that sometimes. My Nana was giving my Aunt Lucille a hard time, and my aunt was sniping back every now and then. But both of them are patient dealing with the other for most of the time. It's just sometimes that they fight. It happens to everyone.
I woke up today and watched the Weather Channel with my Nana. It was raining outside, and the weather all over the country today was crazy, so they had a lot to cover. I know Joyce, Zee, Ann and Marie have been getting a lot of snow up there in the Northeast... It's actually a bit warmer here with the clouds. I'm still cold, but not as cold as I was the other days. Last night was the first night I spent warm, since my aunt has central heating. I had a nice cup of coffee in the morning to help me wake up, and that was nice. I haven't had coffee in over a week, since my stepdad doesn't drink coffee. Every time I go to the coffee shop here (I love the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf shop) I get a tea latte, which is tea made with milk. They have my favorite flavor, English Breakfast, there which they don't have at Starbucks. The coffee this morning made my stomach hurt a bit, but it was still nice to have. I also had a cup when I was out to breakfast with my uncle.
Nana and I also talked for a bit. She was telling me a bit about her first marriage and her marriage to my grandfather, her second husband. She was in Mexico when she was married the first time and her husband drank a lot and was abusive. She took the big step and divorced him when that was taboo (in the 50's), especially for a woman to do to a man. She met my Papa (that's what everyone called my grandfather, just like everyone calls my Nana “Nana”) and married him. He was in the army, and I think he fought in World War 2. I forgot to ask her what war it was that he fought in. It was nice to learn a bit of family history, especially since there isn't much on my Nana's side. She was an orphan, so there's not a lot of family to find there. Nana is 91 and had a hard life. She's fought through a lot, and I love her to death. I made sure to give her a big hug and all that when I left, since it's probably the last time I get to see her.
Thinking about her dying makes me sad, but she's had a good long life and she's getting to the point where she is needing more and more help to do the simple things. She can eat on her own, and get to the bathroom, but she can't do things like wash her hair. That's why I went with her to the beauty salon today, to get her hair washed and styled. Her time is coming. It's not like my dad, who had his whole life ahead of him. It might not have been the life he wanted, but it was still a good life. That's one of the reasons I miss him so much. He died before I could tell him goodbye. I at least get to tell my Nana goodbye. I even got to hug her, which meant a lot to me. I hope I can see her again and have her be in good shape the next time I see her, but I doubt it. I'm just glad I got to have the time with her that I did have today.
Food today was good... I was in my calorie range, but high on fat. We went to Soup Plantation for lunch, which is a salad buffet place, kinda like Sizzler. I had a bunch of stuff, like a Asian salad and a Greek salad. I had their clam chowder and loved it... it was so perfect on a nice cold day. We had rain this morning, so it got me in the mood for comfort food. I had a chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast, and that was yummy as well. It also had rice and beans, as well as salsa on the side. My mood for the day was good... I would say great, but I was dealing with the bit of depression of knowing it might be the last time I see my Nana. Stress was a bit high when my brother got lost on the way to the beauty salon to pick us up, but that was it. Sleep last night was good, and that's it!
