My social skills suck

When I was younger I always thought it was just my shyness, but now at the age of 21 I'm starting to wonder if it's something else. Maybe this is why I am having a hard time putting in a good impression at my interveiws. When I talk to someone I always tense up, and I can't look at them in the eyes, and I know eye contact is pretty important. Sometimes, if the conversaton lasts too long, or it's with someone I don't know; I start to get this wierd feeling boil up like I'm going to cry. Today I had to make a phone call and I could tell I was getting this feeling, I could even hear the shakiness begin in my voice. Why? Why do I do this? I hate it, it makes me never want to leave my house or talk to anyone =(

Well, for sure don\'t give in to the impulse not to leave your house or talk to anyone! You are just too Kewl to hoard all the wonderfulness of you to yourself and not share it with the world! Besides, that just causes more problems in the long run.
I know that feeling all too well. It sux. I overcame it by becoming an actress! Before I go out to an interview, I get dressed in the appropriate costume. I make my face up. I collect whatever props I need, which sometimes includes something, a rock or my little owl statue, to touch when I start feeling insecure and/or intimidated by the whole process. This is something I have that reminds me how much I have conquered or survived in my life, something that reminds me I am as good as anybody else and probably stronger, more determined and possibly even smarter! I put on the appropriate accessories, make sure I look damn good for the part I wish to play, and by the time I get in to do the interview, I have \"become\" the actress, confident, self assured and hopeful, yet not too needy. It seems to work for me.
Then I call them and badger them so much that they get tired of hearing me and hire me just to get me off their backs. LOL!
This is a problem that CAN be overcome, though you might have to get creative in dealing with it before you can actually overcome it. But still, to recognize that there is a problem is already half way to solving it, so take heart in knowing you are already half way there. I know you will cross this bridge, and then burn it so you never have to cross it again. Now, do you need any matches? Or I could get you a nice lighter to start burning that one!

Llednar has it too :D

its pretty common. you can still live a normal life with it, even without medication. but you never really lose the anxiety or anxiousness from communicating with others.
