My Roommates
I don't know where I am right now, or where I've been my whole entire life. I know it's not where I've wanted to be for the most part. But not always. I am writing this to remind myself of a time so good I couldn't believe it was happening.
After high school, my grades were bad and I had to take another year. So I did.
The next fall I began uni in a nearby town and roomed with four other girls. I've heard horror stories about roommates, but I don't have any of my own. The experience of living with them was eye opening. They were the most supportive, respectful, kind people.
The knowledge that I can be treated with respect, that I can be loved, that I can be supported is something that opened my heart in a way that was completely unexpected. I never took it for granted either because it was such a huge change from what I was used to, and I had no idea it was possible to live in such a peaceful environment.
I want to keep my privacy and not go into too much detail. Even then I struggled a lot, but living with these people was one of the most eye opening experiences of my life. And it's important that I don't forget the way I felt there. It's important that I continue to believe that it is possible to find that same feeling of peace and safety in my future.
It's important to remember, no matter how far I am from it now that it is possible.
