my own brand of crazy

we may communicate in iconography - symbols - words- philosophies - and aesethtics - high concept slogans - but we are not

perfect vehicles for these kinds of mental geometries. we each have our own brand of human beingness and wonderful animal

natures. :) Thank goodness. I have my own brand of crazy but I have a rational side too - rational enough to love and care, to manage and create,

and serve and survive!...and yes I still do aspire!!I don't really know what I hoped to achieve by writing this.

Was it a hope at a shared experience? Or was it sense of joy and pride at feeling like the day ended well?

I'm finding just the unexplainable joy in accepting that each of us is a little crazy at times. The human experience

is kind of crazy - but I am finding what is important to me - and my sense of mission in life which I find is

a real treasure for me inside. I have my own little corner of the world here and I just wanted to share a happy beautiful experience. It's helping me feel acceptance and peace like I just mentioned.

I was on my bed and I looked at Blue tonight - and I looked past symbol of him as 'cat' and then looked past my emotions of hoping that I would be something for him - also looking past the hoping

for some kind of reaction that would tell me to rest at ease - I let all that go - and I just looked at HIM

in order to see what he was thinking. Not looking for a perfect creature in him either - neither of us is perfect - just looking at him as another being.

It really turned into and was a nice connection - he jumped into bed and came right up to me.

And this just inspired me to assess (look back at ) what I experienced today from the perspective of what I know now. I don't know what I'm trying to achieve here, again, by sharing this but I guess I just really feel influenced by the contrast of my emotional life being about a fluid or flux state of being and not rules and yet also my inevitable habit of thinking in terms of a pretty picture with others or things I come into contact with and the disruption I inevitably feel. The two sides to the habit don't always go together.

I thought to look back to see if the same things and themes were pushing me along earlier that I am aware of now. For looking

past the iconography - in myself and others - and taking joy and appreciation in the common imperfect human experience :).

As I started to read what I wrote I realized that gosh I can get so disjointed in my writing my thoughts

with the aim for looking for those objectivities or observations but I won't drill down this way. I need to keep on top

of the emotional reality rather than go off into the twigs of theory or philosophy or wisdom.

Those kinds of thoughts are are created, so that, they would help me understand and manage life and feel affirmed. Ultimately

it's the  expression of them that manifests a paradox as the emotions I spin about are inevitably a fluid experience and emotions are not rules, shapes or theory....

Again maybe this all, my mental health journey, has been an odyssey inspired from my yearning to grasp at shapes and forms that edify, fortify and affirm

the rollercoaster of my feelings as I transition from one person to another - from one group to another

from one task to another. But it was a mental wrong turn for sure!

I'll preface this look back  -

with the detail that today I took myself out to a medical appointment at 1pm and then also took myself for an afternoon at my favorite

watering hole - it was pure indulgence - I needed the break and so I went to the Irish Pub. I had a full meal there (starter, main and dessert) and two drinks and it was awesome! I watched some 'opening to the season' baseball game

and chatted with the waiter a little bit but mostly I just relaxed.

I then came back 'in time' to serve at Great Compline and then closed

up the church when it was over and delivered the rectory meals.

This awareness now with the real emotional rollercoaster of

my transitions (and that's a white wash for really how awful it can feel)

really echoes something I learned when I came back to my reality of my monastic life.

I could relate to the 'family' here - both monastics and parishioners even better!

The transitions, which usually yield narcissistic injuries that can set me tumbling

from place to the next - from one group

to the next and from one situation to the next - were now just not so important or impactful.

I realized that today I know now I have to fight for myself and

manage that foibles on my own, to build myself back up -and not spin -

in the vein of being really aware of my feelings and owning the fact that I must

keep believing in myself despite the tragic woeful feelings of worthlessness after dischords..

Rewind to earlier today....and writing about my last night's experiences...

This is what I wrote:

last night i came back to my room after the day's events -

I felt pumped up and on edge about things and not too

adept at shifting gears to the peaceful solitude of my room and then

I just thought of finding an activity to help me relax -

it's a process for sure this relaxing  - and having activity can help me I have

found (a new idea and find for me!) - rather than just a 'cold stop' of laying in bed.

I didn't want to watch tv on the laptop (passive doesn't help me.)

So I chatted with a friend online and drank a perrier -while being with Blue

and then I had to clean the room and get to bed - so I cut the

chat short- and took meds and slept.

and later on...I just back to my room now  - after morning activities - and I feel

so highflying - like no limits to hold me down from flying away like a kite in whichever pursuit

I followed - and it felt like I didn't know what to do

with myself --- it's just that I have the habit of my regimented duties (like everybody I suppose) defining so much about

myself and being so geared towards taking care of

things - that I am not self possessed enough at times to just relax -

so I decided again to kind of 'relax into me'  - like last night -

and I started think about what activity I could find and arrange - that would be relaxing-  taking me

out of living

on a kind of aesthetic linear edge - aka those mental geometries -

 - I realized I had to rely on my own

mind and trust it, that I could create something here, some kind of activity and again

kind of relax into me.. Does that make sense?

I have to leave in an hour or so for the cardiologist.

I guess in a nutshell (no pun intended) I am starting to not go

into woefulness when I don't have clarity in so far as in knowing

what to do. I'm not having trouble with building myself up now for knowing that I am worthy

or that I just plain feeling good about myself

- I know now I have the ability to create my activity and create a project

and 'get into' something.

----

After writing all this stuff - and after I relaxed at the pub- and then I came back to the monastery.-

I interacted with the sisters - and one of the parishioners - and it seemed a little crazy -

I mean - we all are human souls - we all have health and then not health -

and need help - we're all just people!

again - I came back to the thought of compassion for us as individuals and being

not creatures of form but creatures of spirit and foibles and humanity. Emotions are fluid!

It really helped me be so much

more at ease with things - and not pressuring myself to fit some archetypal mold.

It helped me appreciate the people I am living with. It helped me appreciate the people

I serve here. I know I tend to be kind of psychological and scientific at times but this

experience here at the monastery has really made me dig deep into myself and find

the humanity for things that just are. So I am seeing you could call it 'my brand of crazy the life'

I am living but I am ok with it - I  think I am now finding more awareness of just a new dimension to daily humanity.

I'm so glad that you had some wonderful time with Blue and you got out for a lovely lunch

What a difference a day can make
What can seem all encompassing and overwhelming one day can be put into a more reasonable thought the next

I love 'creatures of spirit and foibles'

I couldn't agree more my friend....xo

After writing that last journal and having a session with my therapist, I’m feeling healthier and healthier. I suppose being patient is important but I feel like I know how to manage my feelings and yet in terms of naturally going for what I want in life I am just too unstable and I change if I relax. Again I suppose I am just taking care of myself by engaging with things that aren’t too far a field of the essentials of taking care of myself.. I guess I am not meant for bigger things? That’s hard to accept and makes me want to fight. I want to be a mover and a shaker and have a good impact.
I need to chill and get down to services now. I suppose the way I can have an impact is through being a priest. It’s tailor made for my abilities and nature and I can indeed have a positive impact through this.

i scarcely know what to do with all this verbosity. again i ask, who are you and what have you done with my grasshopper? it's not nice to hack other people's accounts! ! !

in elementary school i was told and earnestly believed i had the math and science talents to make madame curie look like a lazy housewife. i didn't fall short for lack of trying. i have an obscene number of college credits and still haven't finished my freshman core classes. i've had some pretty amazing jobs but failed to work a single one of them through to the laurel accolades.

fast forward to my 70th birthday and i AM a lazy housewife believing the accolades in a relieved smile are impact enough for anyone. just believing. proof irrelevant. also believing that it is impossible to exist without impacting others. lazy housewife, priest, royal majesty or talk show host turned president, choose your impact and measure by the sincerity of the relieved smiles you leave in your wake. again, just believing. proof irrelevant.
