My Greatest Fear(lately)

Okay, here it is, this is gonna sound crazy, but I'm living in an apartment with blank walls, yet everyday I see a thousand things I'd like to hang on them.  Why?  Well, the answer is complicated.  You see, I've never hung anything in my life.  Either my husband or mother did the hanging.  Sometimes my dad.  But never me.  I'm a 53 year old woman with a fear of hanging things on the wall.  I guess.
I think it goes back to my childhood.  I remember it well.  A picture of my aunts boyfriend hanging on the wall, then crashing to the floor.  We kids laughed so hard it hurt, all of us running for cover since we'd been watching Thriller at the time.  I was seven years old and didn't think much of it.  But here I am with a painting, just ready to  hang, and it's sitting on the floor.  I've got a mirror I'd like to buy too.  So what's a girl to do?
Well, I could just prop the thing on a fireplace.  Saw that on HGTV once.  Problem is, I'd have to buy a fireplace for the living room just to put it there and it'll look pretty silly sitting on an electric fireplace.  I could also hire someone to do it.  I can see the ad now: Wanted, someone to hang a picture on the wall.  Willing to pay 5 dollars.  I'm picturing the interview now.  "Well Mr. Soandso, how many years experience do you have hanging pictures?'
Maybe I better come up with another plan.
I could just get used to the blank white walls.  But oh well, that doesn't seem to be working for me.
So, that leaves one thing.  I gotta hit Youtube and find out how to do it.   And once I do, I would have crossed one more threshold since losing DH.  He'd be proud of me.  Of course, I think I won't hang it over my bed.  Just in case.  Wouldn't want a big heavy thing to come crashing down on me and send me to DH before it's time and have to explain that I died because i couldn't hang a picture.

Anyhow, you get the point.  I'm a handywoman in training.

Sorry but you troubles gave me some laughs the interviews were just too funny. I wonder if it\'s not knowing how to or hanging new things in our life (blank wall) that causing us to second guess our selfs. Good luck Dave

When you lost DH, you had to start doing things for yourself, which is hanging pictures on the wall. I don\'t know how to hang pictures on the wall myself. There are a million good reasons why we miss our partners and they did more than we realized for us. All the best from Diane B.

My Dave was the picture hanger here. He was very precise. I look around at his work now and see the order that he brought to my life. Unfortunately so many of the pictures and other items bring me sorrow too!!!! I just can\'t bring myself to take things down. On the up side, as I take things down, I know there\'s a nail to hang something else on. AND anything I put up will be again very measured and precise. Hang tough, no pun intended.
