My former secretary just called sobbing...

because she just found out that her adult son died in a hotel room in Anchorage. She doesn't know how he died or why he died.  The autopsy is tomorrow.  He just got back from a year in Afghanistan and a friend committed suicide recently and that was very difficult for him.  Regardless of whether he died from physical or mental injury, he is gone and she is in so much pain.  My heart is breaking again.  She loved him so much and he knew that, so I hope she can focus on that at least part of the time.
She is a wonderful woman and was very loving and supportive when Jackson died.  Like most people, she didn't really understand what it's like to lose a child, but she was there and I knew she was.  Now, she is going through the same horrendous pain and devastation that I went through 9 months ago.  My eyes are swollen and my heart sad because I have some sense of what is ahead.  I wish I were closer to her, but I'm now in CA and she's up in AK.  I am hoping she will take me up on my offer to come down here for a change of scenery, whether it be next week, next month or next year.
Please pray for my friend, Carolyn, if you are the praying type.  Or send healing thoughts or hold her close in your hearts.

Carolyn knows you are there for her... I\'m so terribly sorry that another mother has to know this anguish and sorrow. One of my dear friends lost her son four months after Douglas and I remember how it reopened wounds that still had very pink, tender skin on them. She knew that I could understand in ways no one else could and she kept telling me that she just had no idea what I was feeling until she found herself there as well. Deepest of sighs and not anything we want anyone else to have to experience, is it...

Oh, how I wish you lived closer too, yet I have no doubt that she will be taking you up on your kind offer.

My heart and prayers are with her and with you as I remember vividly how I felt when I heard about my friend and her devastating loss.

Hand in hand and Heart to heart,
XO Joanie

Each time you hear of another child tragedy, the personal pain is so fresh. It feels as if a scab is ripped off, and the healing has to start all over again. We know her anguish all too well. Patti
