My drug
I ate a pie Sunday. Not a slice. Not two slices. I ate a pie. Today I ate a bag of candy. It was small and washed down by 15 cookies and a bag of popcorn.
I'm addicted to food. Sweets. And I'm out of control.
I was always on the brink. I used to joke that I would be underweight if it wasn't for desserts. But now, I can't seem to stop. Let's see. Yesterday I ate two large taffy apples. I washed those down with the bag of candy I also had today. There's no end in site, it seems.
I know what I'm doing. Death by pie, candy, chocoloate. Slow delicicous death, but death none the less. I know there are easier ways to go, and this is crazy, and I don't want to get fatter. I know all these things, but right now I want another pie and I want that bag of candy locked in my car. And I want to sit in big, loose clothes so I can eat them and not think about how tight my clothes are getting.
I can't believe I'm doing this. I know the cost of obesity. I've seen the victims back in clinical when I was a nursing student. And yet, I can't seem to stop. Food is my drug.
It's a drug just like alcohol, gambling addictions. And yet, there's nothing out there for us sweetaholics. Join weight watchers and they tell you about the delicious cake you can make. Join Jenny Craig and they hand you the dessert menu. Only thing is, I can't stop with just one dessert, anymore than an alcoholic or drug addict can stop with just one small sample.
So here I am, born-again Christian, ex-nursing student, doing something incredibly stupid--killing myself with dessert.
I've got to stop. Must stop. And I don't know how. This is crazy.

Take apple cider vinegar 2 tablespoons and mix in water...as much as you want to drink. This will help to balance your system and stop the sweet tooth at least for a bit. Another is pineapple..for sweet overload. These helped me when I was in the midst of high stress and just snacking to snack. Let me know if it helps you at all. Everyone is different. Hugs, D
I understand completely. I too eat sweet junk rather than cook myself something to eat that is good for me. I am bored, lonely and use food to stuff the void. I have gained 30 lbs since my husband died. I need to stop. I am going to try the apple vinegar, I have heard of this before. I need to stop cold turkey but I have one bag od butterfingers!!!
Yes. You have to look after yourself. I understand once your husband died, you left your father to live on your own and life is crazy. The nearest, dearest and closest thing you can turn to is food - sweets. I love my sweets also. I know I have to be careful and not stock much in the house. It is my down fall as well. You are smart. You have seen it all. I think it is everything you have experience so far is making you turn to food for comfort. Find out the root reason why you are turning to sweets and then deal with it. Find a councellor or someone that you can talk to about everything God and life has thrown your way. It is not easy. Eating too much sweets is a symptom of something deeper inside of yourself that you do not want to face. You have to open the can of worms and deal with it. Either you are going to get large by indulging in your sweet tooth or you will deal with the root problem of all the sweets that you are indulging in at the moment to cover something deeper inside of you. You have to chose which way you are going to go. My God help you in dealing with the root problem of your indulging too much in the sweets. God bless you in your efforts from Diane Baillie
I have this problem too esp with breads and grains. Depression does not help.
My friend in St Louis recommends oa.org. No personal experience. She says they use the 12 step program like AA.
Our preacher said once that if you don\'t want to eat junk, then don\'t bring it home. Apparently he has issues being sighted on nighttime junk food runs.
To me, the answer is getting more raw produce into the diet. WIP.
I am going to try the vinegar thing too. Of course it is easy to get caught up in the sweets.......OMG you don\'t have to cook a candy bar......just unwrap it....and the seratonin from the chocolate......we all \"get\" that part. My best advice is not to buy it or bring it home......that being said I have THREE bags on my kitchen counter......for Halloween.......who am I kidding!!!.....there aren\'t any kids in my neigborhood!!!!
