My Car

I've been putting it off for about a year. My car needs the headlights replaced. The horn also quit working about a year ago. I called and got an estimate. They said headlights alone would be $140, that the horn might be a wiring issue and they didn't know what that would cost yet.

I drive a Chevy Malibu. It's about 10 yrs old, 100k miles or so. You have to take the whole front fender off to replace the headlights, so I can't do it myself. I'm not sure what else might need done to it either.

I told my mom the estimate they gave me this morning. She said the dumbest thing ever, that I shouldn't fix my car since it was so old and broken down, that I should just sell it and that I would be lucky to get $300 out of it. My mom must live on planet moron because it's a nice car with low miles. I looked up online and cars just like it were going for 4k to 6 k. Same year model and mileage.

But anyway I wasn't wanting to sell my car, just get it tuned up. But now I'm all stressed out thinking maybe I should sell my car. If I break up with stupid, then I will have that car. I'm attached to my car tho. She's a good old car who never gave me any trouble. I even named her Matilda. (I name everything)

Idk why my mom even said that. I can see her telling me to sell my car if she needs money, but if she thinks it's only worth $300? Doesn't make any sense.

I don't even plan to fix my car now. The baby kitty needs to go back to the vet and who knows how much that will cost. I spent a ton on the other car this summer because he drives it and doesn't take care of it. Now it doesn't look like I will have enough money to cover fixing my car because I had to spend fall bonus money on other things.

I don't know your mother, but I know more than one person, myself included, who uses stupid comments to change the subject. I don't much love car talk, even though I have considerable experience working on them, so that is even a place I use that tactic. That considerable experience working on cars sure took allot of fun out of car talk. My favorite vehicles are rentals and/or professionally driven. Private ownership is a royal pain in the unmentionables.

Wow seriously? I never knew people did that. Blows my mind. I could never. I've always just thought my mom actually is really stupid, not that she says stupid things on purpose.

I see you driving a Subaru. Your Malibu is what people buy to make into sharp street cars so should be worth good cash. What about your Craft Show Sales for car repairs?

I have had alot of cars in my life and the only cars I ever drove that were reliable and lasted a long time were foreign made. I am currently on my 4th subaru impreza which has 179,000 miles on it and still runs great.

The only american vehicle that was comparable was a Dodge truck which I owned back in the late 80's and I put over 300,000 miles on it. I sold it to a guy who used it as a woods truck.

My next car will probably be a toyota or Nissan, not sure yet. I figure I am still about a year or two away from buying a replacement. I have lots of dents in my subaru though. I was hit in the left rear quarter panel, (not my fault) I just pulled the dent out so the wheel would turn and called it good. I have hit 3 deer with the front end which knocked off a few more parts. The fog lights don't work but I don't drive in the fog anyway. I do my own brake work and oil changes to save money. It has a little bit of rust on it but not alot for a 2005 and i't built like a timex watch....takes a lickin and keeps on tickin!

OK so I got carried away! Please forgive me

God Bless

Ya oughta try it, Ghost. It is amazingly effective and sometimes even brings a round of healthy laughter with the subject change. I call it, "Studied Ignorance." I'm not ignorant. I'm ignoring you by design.

Arfie I would never do anything to intentionally sound stupid. Also I don't have much sense of humor.
