My Business is about to go under and I don’t know what to do

So I’ve been operating my own business for the past five years or so that sells home decor online. It hasn’t exactly been booming or anything, but around a year after I set up, I was seeing steady profits that meant I could keep it all going for the foreseeable. I didn’t have many issues setting up the website to start with; I just used a website builder and probably took a couple of days to get it fully set up. I couldn’t invest loads of time in it because I was running the site along with a couple of others in the early days.

After a year or so, the business really started to take off. I was putting more and more time and money into the site, focusing on improving my SEO and paying close attention to Google Analytics. So many people were visiting the site that I couldn’t keep up with the demand. I was running out of stock and felt like I was stretched super thin while still running my other sites, so eventually, I just had to close them down so I could completely focus on my home decor site. It was a no-brainer, considering the amount of money coming in.

For the first time in my life, I felt like I was successful – that I was truly good at something, but at the same time I also felt a bi hollow inside. Like, I’ve made it, but this is all there is to it? I had money. There were things I didn’t need to worry about anymore, but I wasn’t satisfied. On top of that, I was so so stressed about the website all the time. I grew into other regions, which meant that I’d have orders and complaints coming through at 2 in the morning – not exactly great for my sanity.

But then, something weird happened. The traffic going to my website fell off a cliff. Orders dried up, pretty much overnight, and I hadn’t done anything differently. It turns out there was a Google update, which took my website from ranking at the top to not even ranking at all. Like I said earlier, I don’t know much about websites, so I started talking to this design agency in Leeds to see if they could give me some help. They might be able to help, but it’ll still take quite a long time to get the site back on track.

Anyway, right now I just feel like my entire world is collapsing and there’s nothing I can really do about it. My savings have been completely wiped out, and I’m struggling to afford care for my mum (she’s been in a home for the past couple of years). I’ve spent the past week eating butter pasta, but am considering going to a foodbank if I can’t turn things around soon. I feel like my anxiety is at an all-time high, and that I’ve lost everything that I built. Has anyone else here ever been in a similar situation? How did you get out of it? I don’t really have anyone, except my mum at least.
