My Brother Can't Be Sick.

My brother didn't even tell me.  My  mother did.  She called to update me because my brother is dealing with it his own way.  He's acting like it's nothing.  Like it can't even turn out to be something.  He's joking about it, and laughing, and I get why he is doing it, but I don't know why he didn't tell me?
My brother is one of my best friends.  He is 30, has 2 little girls and a wife.  Lately he has had some issues with blood clots in his legs and has had to inject blood thinners into his stomach.  He was off work for awhile.  Then they sent him for a look at his chest, to check his heart due to all this blood clot jazz.
And they found a mass on his lungs.
He has smoked since he was 14.  But he is in the process of quitting.  Before all this.  He has an RX for Champex, and he was going to get it at the end of this month, that's when his coverage would pay for it.
He just went for another test.  It could be nothing.  It could be something simple like a cyst that they can remove with surgery.
Or it could be cancer.
My brother, my best friend, could be dying.  And he didn't even tell me. Our mother did.  He kept it a secret!

I\'m so sorry, Jolene... this must be terrifying. In fact, I know it\'s terrifying when you think someone you love may be very ill. At one point, the doctors thought my dad had a life-threatening heart problem... while we were waiting to find out, I was just a mess. My dad wasn\'t even 50 yet! How could he be that sick? I just broke down one night, turned into a sobbing mess, during an AA meeting. Luckily that was the best place it could have happened- I got a lot of support. But I still walked around feeling sick to my stomach until we found out for sure what was going on... after a bunch of fairly invasive tests, they figured out that my dad\'s heart was 100% normal and healthy... their \"major defect\" turned out to just be an anomaly on the image.
So I\'m going to keep your brother in my prayers and hope that it turns out to be nothing. Or something easily manageable. Yes, he is a smoker, but he\'s young... it\'s not that common for someone to end up with lung cancer so young. If it is something bad, it\'s not a definite death sentence. I know the mind automatically goes there when you hear about a major health issue... but try not to project into the future. Take it day by day. If it is cancer, you guys WILL get through it. You\'re strong. It\'s so unfair that you keep having to BE strong, getting so many things thrown at you... it sucks. I\'m sorry you\'re going through this.

And it\'s probably just too hard for your brother to tell you. You guys are close, and he really loves you... he\'s probably scared to death himself right now, even if he isn\'t acting like it. It sounds like he\'s a good guy... and good guys often try to be strong for those around them. Maybe he doesn\'t want to break down or scare anyone, so it\'s easier if he doesn\'t talk about it with you. Everyone copes in their own way.

*hugs*
