My brain
I've taken notice that my brain latches on to doom and gloom. Perhaps because I've been on social media so much Ive been affected by all the talk about how society is going downhill, minimum wage problems homelessness etc. It could very well be my brain has been hijacked. There's only so much I can do with my life. Perhaps I haven't been really nice to myself. All I know for right now is that I am SO very sick of everything. Going to a park and listening to music is what's keeping me alive for some reason the cat hasn't been enough. I'm calling around to see if there is someone to talk to.

I have never been on social media and I only read the news. Not tv. I know that the world is facing huge challenges but really the world will be fine. It’s gone through extreme changes before. And people have been facing hardship forever. Sure it’s a lot now but I don’t know anyone who has been eaten by an animal or enslaved by a warring tribe.
I just had my haircut and she asked me if I’m doing anything fun. I laughed and said my whole life is fun. Because I’ve become an optimist. Six years ago I was an alcoholic who was failing at loving myself. The very first day that I decided that I was done with alcohol I went for a walk. Just a little one. But the next day I went a little further. Walking daily has been the therapy/self love that I never knew I needed. Here’s the thing….. for months it was a little torturous because my mind was a mess and I had never learned to see what it meant to be the moment. Once I got tired of the endless stories I was telling myself, I began to really enjoy the walk. Not as an escape but to get real with myself. Right now, in this moment there’s nothing better I can be doing for myself. Admitting that I needed to change is scary stuff. The funny thing is that Change is just allowing myself to grow up. That’s what I have been resisting all my life.
Perception is so fluid when we believe that it’s set in stone. It’s a shift from seeing the guy driving like an a-hole to seeing the person stopping for someone in the crosswalk.
Someone apologizing after a fight and saying they were wrong…… bad, good…. Just life.
Take care of yourself:)
I only know what works for me. Getting real… Stories about what could happen or what is apparently happening is a mind game. Right now embrace your life exactly as it is. The trap is to keep seeking for something better. How will it be better if we don’t live here and now?
That’s what is consistently changing me. Seeing that we are all fulfilling life’s purpose simply by being alive. EVERYTHING else is extra.
sometimes it's easier to think negatively. especially when you're surrounded by it on the news.
try not to get down on yourself for it...but maybe (indeed) try and save yourself from it by limiting news intake.
Do positive things for your mind and body. Take walks in the sunshine for a least 20 minutes.
It's scientifically proven that it helps with a depressive state.
I'll think some more on this.. CBT also might help!?
Long ago, probably around 10 years ago I got rid of tv. I couldn't validate spending nearly 1000. a year for garbage. At one time I was on FB chatting away with friends...ha ha...just people I know from school, but not in my life in any significant way...I am not rich by any stretch, and reading about all their trips and blah blah, pictures massive 'everything' I started to feel badly about myself and my life...I still do feel badly about not 'living and creating stories' but that's on me. I don't listen to the radio either. I get my news online from a few places, pay 12.75 per month so I don't get advertising on utube, well worth the money as far as I'm concerned. There is a lot of crap going on in this world and in our country today, no doubt in my mind it will be worse down the road with the politics insanity.
When I do venture out of my house, I do my very best to put on a smile, be kind to all I encounter...that's my way of trying to make a better world and feel better about my own life.
I've been in a major depression for nearly 2 years, it sucks, but I'm nearly 70 so I accept too that partly my age has something to do with Everything. I try to do at least One thing a day that I should do, other than that anything goes. It's not a good or healthy way for me to live, this I know for sure, however God Willing I will have tomorrow where I'll clean house for my dear lady, that is Huge for me....I don't know if it's something you might like to do...only 2 hrs and the feeling I get to help her mentally with company, physically doing what causes her pain, helping her to remain in her home is beyond words...I'm so very grateful to and for her...you'd be your own boss.
Thank you for the hug, not sure what it was for but grateful if I was of help in some small way to you :) <3
I really like what has already been said, especially finallyawakenow's comments about the fluidity of perception and embracing life as it is now (even when it's difficult). Mark mentioned CBT, and I've personally found it very helpful when it comes to dealing with cognitive distortions that can make us feel really miserable. I do hope that you'll choose to be nice to yourself. We are often our own worst enemies, saying things to ourselves that we would never, ever say to a friend. I'm glad that music and nature bring you some comfort. Hoping the days ahead are better ones for you!
Thank you all of you!!
