Moving foreward

I attended the TransFaith in Color Conference this weekend. It was great - I got a lot of useful info, and met several local area transmen, making connections and found a workout buddy and mentor.
My gender therapist was there, and told me she has sent the VA a recommendation for a qualified endocrinologist to see about getting me on T.

My mother and my best friend attended with me, and both enjoyed it and found it educational.
I am about to go ahead and do the name change in my state, to make landing a job a bit easier - masculine looks, female name doesn't exactly work for most employers in my area.
I didn't run into any flag-waving, in-your-face, making a scene of their lives people. Which was great, because I had been afraid I might run into some and it might put my mother off. What I found was a large group of supportive, well-informed people who were reaching out to educate each other and the interested public in a totally non-confrontational, welcoming manner. My mother now understands exactly why I was so afraid to come out to her, and why I am so proud and happy that she has been willing and able to accept me for who I am. She asked me how I wanted to be introduced from now on, as her daughter or as her son; and I said, "Mom, I'm just one of your sons, if you don't mind."; and she said, "I just wanted to make sure it was ok to introduce you that way, son."
I am so blessed to have two beautiful, loving, supportive ladies in my life - my mom, and my best friend.
