Moving along - - 3.21

Just checking in... I did have a few urges this weekend - having $$ = urges to gamble of course, but I didn't do it!!  Got a lot done at my house with the hours I would have spent in one spot at the slot machine. :] What I know and it has taken me a long time to admit it is that I put an awful lot of things off in the house and now I can't run and hide; things are "hitting" me square on.  Anyway, things like organizing certain areas; paper, files, kitchen items, dvd's; I find I'm craving order!!! Anyone else go through this?  Anyway, since I tend to procrastinate sometime (not something I'm extremely proud of). :] I started working early this morning and put myself in timetables each hour.. I have and have had as sort of a therapy a crossword puzzle going on all the time that I can turn to when things get rough.  So.. I would do about 50 min of work and then allow myself 10 minutes to do the puzzle and get so many pieces in, etc.,  Anything to make a "game" out of it.   Pretty pathetic, really, (I'm laughing) But honestly, it is working for me and I guess that's what counts.
Well, I needed to get away from the health care reform debates on TV, so this was nice break.  I'm open to all and any tips on organizing - office, bathrooms, kitchens.  I'm open to suggestions and learning to be better at it!
Take care and hope everyone is well,
HUGS - Smokeygirl

First great job on resisting the urges and finding ways to work through them. Well I like plastic see through boxes all sizes for different stuff. I use the shoebox size for my crafts and have about 20 of them. I use the larger ones the size of suitcases I suppose, for clothes out of season. So now it is time to take down my winter stuff and put up the summer clothes. Thats about it for me, just different size see thru boxes. good luck. Barb

I like the crossword puzzle reward system...good one! The trouble with me sometimes is I blow up a job into a huge daunting overwhelming thing in my mind, and cutting it down to manageable pieces really helps. Sometimes I set a timer for 20 mins or whatever and commit myself to just that. What almost always happens is that once started, I get into it and keep going! Getting started us usually the hard part.

Congrats on ignoring those thoughts and doing something positive instead!

Hi Pat... No gambling -- Wonderful. Great job on passing the urges onto something more productive. I like your reward system, do a little work, get a little fun. I should try that sometime, cause I have really been putting of the work. But I have been organizing -- pictures. Digitally and printed. That can be a chore. And.. you can get lost in it if you dont watch yourself. I have about 7,000 pics on my computer and about 1,000 still to scan in. And.. I have a HUGE box of slides that my Mom and Dad gave me that I need to scan in. Needless to say, I set a goal of one year to get all of this done. Have you tried Sudoku? They are my crossword puzzles, just in number form. Fun and it stimulates your brain. But they can be addictive. I even had it on my phone at one point. Knew I was out of control and deleted. My organzing tip of the day: Take a shoe holder that hangs from your closet rod (mine is made out of fabric and has rectangular size slots. Roll your sweaters up and insert into slot. Then they dont get the \"hanger\" look from sagging off hangers.

Good job on not giving in to the urges!! I\'m the same way, have money want to gamble, but like you I find other things to do. Yes, when I stopped gambling I got on a cleaning, throwing away kick. I think we all do in some way or other. Once we stop we see what we have let go and realize that it\'s not what we would have normally done. Keep up the great work!! Peace and Love. Patty
