Mother & Daughter

I thought I would share, I saw this on face book!!

Recently, I overheard a mother and daughter in their last moments together at the airport as the daughter’s departure had been announced. Standing near the security gate, they hugged and the mother said, "I love you and I wish you enough."
The daughter replied, "Mom, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Mom." They kissed and the daughter left.
The mother walked over to the window where I sat. Standing there, I could see she wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude on her privacy but she welcomed me in by asking, "Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever?"
"Yes, I have," I replied. "Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever good-bye?"
"I am old and she lives so far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is the next trip back will be for my funeral," she said.
When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, "I wish you enough." May I ask what that means?"
She began to smile. "That’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone." She paused a moment and looked up as if trying to remember it in detail and she smiled even more.
"When we said ‘I wish you enough’ we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain them". Then turning toward me, she shared the following, reciting it from memory,
"I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright.
I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more.
I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive.
I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger.
I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting.
I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess.
I wish you enough hello’s to get you through the final good-bye."
She then began to cry and walked away. They say it takes a minute to find a special person. An hour to appreciate them. A day to love them. And an entire life to forget them. That moment I shall remember for all eternity.

I have read this before and adore it. In gratitude for your sharing of it today dear Kelly. Thank you.

I always say too that each of us is enough, more than enough and I believe this is what I have been feeling around it when I say and ponder it. Always we are thinking that we need to be \"more\" of this and that and spend so much of our lives striving... what would it BE and feel like to rest from time to time in the knowing that we are beloved and truly enough...

Loving care to that beautiful and playful heart of yours dear Kelly. I SEE you and YOU are most certainly enough!!!

Tight, tight hugs,
XO Joanie

What a sad but wonderful journal. Makes a person stop and think and hope that we do appreciate what we have and not keeping wanting more than we need. Thank you for posting this. Your friend, BW

Thank you for sharing. This post has made me cry my eyes out... especially the last line \"I wish you enough hellos to get through the final good-bye\". We are trying to get through our final good-bye with Vinny... every day for the last 3 nights we thought he would go. We are ready, we think.. we are waiting... we have told him to go to Heaven so he can run and walk and sit up and eat again. We told him about all of the little friends and loved relatives who are waiting for him. We have had the Reverend come do a transitional prayer last night. The Oncologist made his 3rd home visit, and kissed him and prayed over him himself... at midnight last night, I called our great friend Pat, who does healing touch and transitions to Heaven for our Church, and she did one over the phone. Vinny is very weak, barely there, is seeing little friends, and hallucinating... saying the strangest things, but he just will not go.

His 5 years of having cancer (1st mass was found at age 4 yrs old... he is now 9 yrs old)... has taught me to appreciate every little second, to say \"I love you\" when you mean it in case you don\'t have a second chance to say it... and he has taught me that Angels and Heaven are very real. He has taught us so much, but it is this final good-bye that he just is not ready to say yet.
Love,
Sarah
