let me see, how about recent highlights?
last night i was sitting here online, heard something odd, an unfamiliar rattling sound......tried to place it and then the garage door made a sucking sound as though a giant wind had just come through, but there was no giant wind........the windows shook, the house trembled and it was over.
i got up and listened at the back door......peered out into the darkness.......and wondered what in blue plaid heaven had just happened. around 10:30 we felt earthquake tremors, the epicenter was in Edgefield, SC (which borders GA)......the tremors were felt for hundreds and hundreds of miles. I called a local news station, got a vibrant young man named Corey, who assured me that many folks were calling it in, that the local meteorologist was checking it out and would report it on the news at 11 pm. And he did......I know, cause I watched! LOL........
I also called my son, he was watching a Mission Impossible movie on his monster screen telly, so he didn't notice at all! Now you gotta take a sec and imagine that call.......after just having two major winter storms, followed by 60 degree weather, followed by heavy rain.......a young man's mom calls and says, "Hey did you just feel the earthquake"........talk about a pregnant pause........I'm sure for a second there he thought his Mom had gone off her nut.....aka, lost her mind completely!
It's not that we never have them, but they are an infrequent occurrence to be sure.

While I'm not able to do a whole lot to help during the storm I did notice the neighbor across the street struggling to clear her driveway Thursday afternoon with a small garden spade. SMALL,not even an average size spade........poor woman! So I raised the garage door and stood there holding my snow shovel (when you're raised in the midwest, you still gotta keep a shovel for snow......) I held it up like a banner hoping she would notice ......I tried calling out, but my voice power was puny.
She saw the snow shovel and shouted out, "YES!".......made the trek up my hilly long driveway......so it wasn't much but it helped her clear a path to make it to work Friday morning. Out here nobody ever comes to plow our street, so she was brave to go in as early as she did. We still had black ice, but she skated in via her tiny little white car.
In other news.......heard a loud thump against the french doors.......lying in my snowtracks was a beautiful bird.
That 'ol adrenalin was a pumpin........what to do? google........found an article in seconds about exactly that, it opened with: "In nine out of ten cases when a bird hits a window the bird is usually stunned/is rarely fatal."
Praying "Lord let this bird be alright........" & "breathe girl, don't be such a goof!"
The article told me what to do, so I got a shoe box, some clean tea towels (to give the bird a protected safe place til he came to)......grabbed an ounce of courage, undid the locks, peered out.
..... the bird subtly lifted his head......saw a giant freaking human with a box, probably thought "Oh crap, she's carrying a coffin.........I'm outta here!"
Streaked off at the speed of light........I was so relieved that the bird was alright.......sat down and breathed......once adrenalin gets going it takes a few minutes to relax back into the normal lane.
Had my first piece of Valentine chocolate last night.......a Millefeuille, I can't pronounce it, but it's layers of custard cream between layers of chocolate flakes covered in milk chocolate. Never had anything like it, subtle, creamy.......yummmo! My favorite is white, then milk and then down the lane dark chocolate.
Found a copy of "Fiddler on the Roof" for $4.28, no S&H charges. How this is possible I don't even know........my son said that price is crazy.......! It makes no sense but I already got confirmation that it shipped and should arrive in time for my little birthday party treat at home ........so looking forward to songs like "Matchmaker, Matchmaker", "If I Were a Rich Man", "Sunrise, Sunset"..........it's been many many years since I've seen it and I am so looking forward to it! The kitties are gonna have to deal with me crooning along to these tunes.......I need to make them paper party hats!
My noggin feels like it got hit by a toboggan. ......ow.. OK I finished the daily doses of 50,000 units of Vitamin D........ am now taking combo supplements of calcium w/ vitamin D. which is good, but here's the problem, they are giant horsepill capsules, very hard to swallow. I didn't realize they would be so freaking big........last night it felt like the pill was stuck, I was gulping water and trying to decide if I would die without vitamin D.........there has got to be a better way. I got two BIG bottles of these at wal-mart, one of those buy one get one free.......how am i gonna deal with them until May.........you can't half these can you????? seems like it would not be a good idea......but whaddya think?
i stayed up late last night watching "When Harry Met Sally".......I like the scene at the Metropolitan Museum.....if you're in the mood give it a shot........it's silly, but I like silly.........xoxo!

have a good day out there........rest up, be careful on the mountain tops, no irresponsible aerial stunts and for goodness sake if you must go out, make sure your parachute is packed properly........if i had to commute via parachute or hang glider ........well I can't even imagine! makes the other options much more reasonable...........these legs may be slow & I may be a little bent over, but ..... thinking about the parachute option, makes me grateful for what I got........"Slow and steady wins the race", said a quiet little tortoise from Georgia........

I felt an earthquake tremor two days ago. I was lying in bed. There is no doubt in my mind that the house shook. Ya know how I\'m sure about that? I had a bottle of water beside me and was waving ever so slightly back and forth! I was TERRIFIED. You know, we are on a fault line going down the Northeast corridor. If it happens, it will be a big surprise to us, but not to meteorologists who study this stuff.
Glad that little birdie flew away. Here\'s our Sparrow taking care of one of her own!!! Of course!! xoxo
I would say an earthquake is a pretty important update! We had one here a few years ago - first one I ever experienced. It woke me and the doggies up but my husband slept through it - he\'s the kind of guy that you\'d say would sleep through an earthquake - LOL. I think it\'s funny Sam\'s movie and super powered TV drowned out the earthquake -he must have thought you were kooky! I think a lot of dvds are so cheap now because of Netflix and Hulu - enjoy the movie. It\'s my mother-in-law\'s favorite movie - you\'ll be singing happy songs for a long time.
I heard about the earthquake on the news here in MONKY! I wondered if it was near you and yours.
Birds hit our windows all of the time. Once, a humming bird flew in the door with me and tee-totally cold cocked itself on the dining area windows! I thought the poor itty-bitty was dead. I scooped him up in my hands, and while I was examining him, he began to move. I carried him outside and held him until he stopped wobbling. Then I gently and carefully place him on a low tree limb and stepped back and watched. He sat on the limb for at least 5 minutes before he finally flew up into another tree.

( I bet Darla is jealous) Rescuing a little bird in distress.Saving the lady with the short shovel.Watching favourite old movies.And now a music party coming up with songs by Madame Ruthie herself.Say what??
