morning
got up, went to Starbucks, came home, played with Blue and cleaned up some things around here.
Then went for a walk. It was a push for me to get out the door - but I just believed I should make my
day and this was a part of it - I believed in the value of my own adventure and so I went...I love it there - once I got there, I was reminded of that..
And so I just kept on walking for about a mile (4 times around the loop). And then
came home. Again - it was an adjustment coming back home...To thinking about what I would do - and taking care of Blue
but - I am reminding myself that I am shifting gears to life back at home and slowly I am calming down
after all the exercise energy. Now I'll check my list on what I planned and get on with it.

Have you tried putting a leash harness on Blue yet? He might enjoy a walk, too, or at least some time playing with the leash in the fresh air.
Perhaps the greatest gift I gain from my critters is their relentless nagging to get out and experience the day. What does planning and purpose have to do with it? It's just life and that is plenty.
thanks arfie! he really resists the harness I have for him! He's already so freaked out by any little thing that happens around here so I like the idea and wish it could happen - but maybe one day... not yet though.
I've known folks who carry their cats to wherever they are going and just use the leash to keep them from running off. If they freak out, their familiar lap is their to console them. Maybe a treat or two for backup consolation?
A friend of mine used a stroller with a screen cover (make-shift) to walk the cat in.
That's great that you got going! Hurrah!
thanks guys. just took another walk, this time to the Bakery near me - I didn't get anything - but I went there just to get 'out and about...' it was a nice walk. Now that I am back home, I have to remember to remind myself that I am transitioning again... I get dipping real dark and intense if I don't 'cop to' the fact that I just came from somewhere and my feelings are catching up to my new place... I also tend to feed my emotions then too. Not good..
I really can't see bringing Blue out on a leash and holding him as an option - he would scratch me to ribbons...and run... I do have a carrier for him - that I could just bring outside by the park bench near my door. That's an idea! So thanks Arfie!!
Insofar as getting him in a stroller, I can't bring myself to do that lol hehe. A nice idea Mid though! - but can you imagine this 52 year old dude taking my dainty boycat out for a stroll....over the top!! hahah :) Friends of my little sister do take their cat out in a stroller...and when my brother in law was with them he told me he was mortified lol.
Ah...you'd be surprised at the conversation starters your cat would provide.
And, hubs will push the dog in the stroller and has gotten many thumbs up-it's easier to push him than it is to hold him!
And, like Arfie mentions with the carrier, that's a great idea!
My 6'5" athletic hubby pushes a baby stroller whenever he can. He claims it is the hottest chick magnet he's ever found. He's married, not buried. It hasn't occurred to him to push animals, but probably just because he hasn't thought of it yet.
I'll second the draw of pets as conversation starters. That would be the very manner of how I met the folks who carry their cats and use the leash to keep them from getting lost. People who care that much about their pets stand out and feel far more approachable to my feral senses.
ok tomorrow we're going go down the stairs to the park bench in front of my place and we will set for a while..
together in nature! thanks you guys! my family has been trying to get me to do this as well. :)
Big hug Marky.... Good for you getting out and getting some exercise....xo
Haha, my cat hates the harness I got for her. I have to watch her bc she does go out on my back deck but she’s getting braver and may make a mad dash escape one day!
The walks sound great mark! I sometimes go for walks just to go. I have a bunch of cheap dollar stores that will allow me to spend just a smidge to get some practical things for the apartment. The weather here will be nasty soon so I’ll be hunkering down.... but if the weather is lovely where you are, finding a park to go sit in and read or listen to headphones or something is a fine way to spend days.... I used to pack lunches and go sit in parks and read in my last apartment.
Dogs are far more trainable than cats, but even my bestest dogs have needed time to adjust to the leash. Dragging them --fighting every step of the way-- to a more interesting spot outside and sitting with them for a spell helps them understand the benefits of leash learning. Once they understand the goal, the rest falls in place far easier. Taking snacks always helps ease their initial anxieties. Does life get any finer than a relaxing picnic?
The first steps are always the hardest. Flow with it.
