More of my Mom's Doctors
I got to see my mom's neurologist today. It went well. I told him what the other doctor theorized about the clot that caused the stoke, and he seemed to agree. He said my mom should be getting more and more of her strength back, and that she should almost fully recover. That made me feel a lot better. Maybe my mom will get her beautiful handwriting back... I sure hope so. He also stressed that she needs to quit smoking.... something we have all been bugging her to do. Her husband quit at one time, but he got so mad at my mom for not quitting that he picked it up again somehow. I don't know how that makes sense, but in his mind it does. Maybe it was a threat- either you quit or I start up again. I don't know. All I know is that my mom says she is going to try and cut down on smoking and quit. She told the doctor that when she came back in 3 months that she would be a non-smoker. I would love to see it happen, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high.
Last night I cried about Lola, my mom, a bunch of things. It all just hit me when I was on the phone with Geo. I didn't cry much, but considering how I haven't cried in a long time it was good. I needed to cry with all this stuff going on. I needed to let some of it out. I don't feel bad today, I feel good again, so I'm going to be marking my mood as good. I got out some bad emotions last night and I'm over it. At least I hope I'm over it. I know that it's going to take a while for my mom to get better, but I'm glad that I got to see her doctors and that she will be getting better in the first place. It's also good to know that she's making improvements already.
I also got my hair cut today. I got it cut super short.... right now it looks like Molly Ringwald in “The Breakfast Club” short. I like it. It took me a while to get used to it, like it normally does, but I like it now. I should be able to exercise without my hair blowing in my face now... all I have to do is wear my hat. I was sick and tired of my hair smelling like sweat all the time, since it's so thick that I have to wash it two or thee times to get the sweat out of it. I exercise a lot, so it's really hard. I'm going to try and post a picture of my hair when I get home. I don't know if I will be able to do it from my mom's computer, and the picture isn't on my computer yet. I got it cut so short so I can donate it to Locks of Love. It's something I do every couple of years, once my hair gets long enough. I don't cut it at all during that time, and I don't even blow dry it or straighten it. I just let it grow naturally and leave it it's natural color. Sometimes I want to dye it, and rarely I do, but normally I just let it grow and be it's happy hair self. It's weird.... The woman who cut my hair (My mom's sister in law) braided it and gave it to me to send, so I have hair on my bedside table, drying out so I can send it. Most people would find that really odd, but it's something I'm used to since I donate as often as I can.
I got a text from my therapist today saying she's not going to see me until November 3rd... that's a long way away, but I'm doing good enough that I think I can manage. It also gives me more money. I don't have a lot at the moment, so knowing that I have some to spare is a good thing. I'm not going to go blow it on unimportant things, I'm going to save it for things that matter (like getting Geo his birthday cake). You might not think that getting a birthday cake means a lot, but it means a lot for him. It's a tradition for him and his family to get a Carvel cake every year, and those things are not cheap. I don't like them that much... for my birthday I prefer a home baked cake with some ice cream on the side. I'm pretty simple that way.
Food today was kinda extravagant today, but I was within my calorie range for the most part. I haven't added up the total, but it seems like I should be able to get in. I had roast beef and noodles for breakfast, carrots and squash for lunch, nachos for a snack and pork chops with rice, beans, and cornbread for dinner. It was a pretty simple food day, and I haven't had stomach problems since I've been up here. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've had some heartburn, but that's it. Stress was low today, just running around doing errands with my mom... no big thing, just getting to spend time with her. Sleep was good last night... I got about 10 hours of good sleep and I haven't really felt tired all day. I hope I sleep that well tonight. Mood overall is good!
