More hurdles along the way.
Been a couple of weeks since my last update here. That's because I've been dealing with some serious problems.
The wounds didn't get infected - an infection burst through from deep inside. I had to return to surgery to get it identified and cleaned out, and ended up spending more time in the hospital, waiting for a piece of portable equipment to arrive. Now, I have a constant burbling companion everywhere I go, 24/7. It's called a wound vac, but I refer to it as a mechanical leech. Thus far, it's helping me heal up faster - again - and preventing any other infections.
Not so bad, except for the twice-weekly changes - which hurt more than you can imagine - and the noises it makes, the weight dragging on one shoulder as I carry the thing, and the smell as its tank gets full. Can we say I'm not very social right now? I mean, with hoses coming off my body, and a machine making weird noises at my side, and bad smells no matter what, who'd want to go out?
On another note, I finally got to mental health at the VA hospital. They are working on finding me a therapist so I can get the paperwork for making my transition legally. It could be months before they find someone qualified to see me; but at least now they're working on it. Meanwhile, I'll be in a group depression therapy.... if they find one where I can get to it. Can't drive on the pain meds they put me on with this mechanical leech.
All this during the period of time when my home business usually begins picking up for the holiday season.
Well, best not push myself too much. Apply more energy to healing up.
