I haven't written for a while, but going thru a rough patch and need to vent. My Dad, at 96 1/2, has been in the hospital for 10 days. I had a sinus infection and was not able to visit him until last Friday when he was so mean to me I walked out. He told me I am raising my kids wrong, they are 28 and 29, both married, own their own homes, and both teach high school. I told him he couldn't talk to me that way, nor could he verbally abuse me any more. I was very calm, said he could call me when he was able to speak to me nicely. He was to have gone to his apartment today, and all of a sudden he was told he could not get 24 hour care, that he thought was being supplied to him thru the hospital social worker, but 2 - 3 hours only per day. It was suggested he go into hospice. I know I am in shock about this decision, esp since I was not even aware it was being discussed. Dad will stay in the hospital until a bed becomes available. My brother is here until the end of January he lives half way around the world, then he'll be gone for me to look after "things'. My Dad's heart is failing, he is very weak, and in the past 3 weeks he has really gone down hill. Not helping is his "friend" that has driven a wedge between him and his family, all but my brother, my Dad does what she wants, he has chosen her, it is so damn sad. She told my Dad I tried to kill him on my daughter's wedding day.......this is what we are dealing with. I am made to feel guilty for pretty much everything. I was always there for my Mum and Dad and when my Mum passed away 4 years ago he was already in a 2 year relationship with this person. Sick sick sick. Thanks for listening.

The best therapy going is to simply pour it all out and have less to carry around inside to only harm us more.

I\'m so very sorry for the harm inflicted. The loss of our loves/soul mates has been overwhelming - to face these challenges without them at our sides - for me I have no family and what I thought was my Christian family - turns out what they in fact love is money and after my husband\'s death I am too ill from severe disability where I now only have my widow\'s benefits which, I have been taught by those who \'claim\' a belief in god, that I am only loved in as much as I can satisfy the greed of those around me - making me for all practical purposes left for dead to manage or die to the best of my abilities. I now have acceptance and fully embrace reality for what it is and no longer embrace those beliefs which have been proven to be untrue.

Take very, very special care -- as we simply have no choice, if we seek a quality life, to let go of what only seeks to harm us and deprive us of any happiness. Allow the healing of all past hurts and harms to begin. Embrace what is good and, as much as is possible, let go of what only seeks to harm.

Gentle ((hugs))
:-) Patricia

Your dad brought this on himself. You are free and clear of any responsibility and guilt. You and your family have done what they could to help your dad. If he listens to his girlfriend, your dad is a fool. Leave him to his own self. Make sure you look after yourself well. Do the best for yourself. Don\'t buy into your dad\'s guilt trips or if he tries to shame. Get rid of the negative things in your life, anything that hurts or harms you and keep only the good and positive things in your life. Life is getting shorter all the time. It is time to put ourselves first. Let the healing in to your heart and soul. You are a wonderful woman. Don\'t let anyone tell you differently. From Diane B.

Thanks for all the kind words. Diane, why are you using a dating site, did you and Dave split? Hugs, Wendy

Let him go with love, Wendy. He\'s made his own bed, he will lie in it. Do what you need to do so you will have no regrets at the end.

Send him love, pray for him, but don\'t take anything he says to heart. And don\'t get into any kind of a discussion with his \"friend\".

I think you handled that hospital visit very well. You sounded like the parent ....if you can\'t speak to me nicely....

Sending hugs and support. We understand.
