Model T - then and now
Model T Ford 1962 The wrapping paper still afresh, the carpet floor now a messChristmas day had come and gone, and yet my father sensed something wrongHe sniffed the air as if to see if something err was neath the treeBut nothing was, the floor was bare of gifts and bows and childish care But still one missing, one not there and he could not sense the crucial where? He said with half a smile “Santa missed one” –let’s search a while.Upstairs? No that was out, Santa ne’r came where children were about.Perhaps the porch – but not, he thought, out there it’s cold and presents naught. Downstairs YES, that was it – that’s the where if he knew St. Nick.Down we went, the cellar stairs, hoping to find the one last carePause – not here, not precise, he checked the room and checked it twice.Garage? Perhaps, you know never what Santa may have parked in the snow. The door was opened… 2008 The door is opened… Silent now, the car at rest in quiet peace, miles long over, so it sleepsA tiny car, you’d have to say that saw a better life some other dayRusted now, headlights bent, tires flat and several dentsFor on a another day when it was new, it’s owner now was smaller too. ***** Now dear reader, go my photos and you'll the black and white picture that ends the tale.....
