Medical Weight Loss
I had an appointment yesterday with a weight loss doctor. I've often seen the debate between counting the calories you burn from a workout verses not counting them at all. What I took away from this meeting was that I'm figuring my calorie intake all wrong. I'm taking in almost 1500 calories too much a day, and that's just a guess, when you take away the workout calories. And I wonder why I'm not losing weight. So, here's the new plan.
1. Based on BMI, my daily calorie intake is 2,709. That's the maximum amount of calories per day. It was suggested I go 500 below that number.
2. To begin with, I'm going to stay at 2709 for a week or so and see how my body responds. Naturally, should my weight begin to fall, so will the daily calorie intake.
3. Workouts will remain moderate, with high rep counts and 5 sets per exercise. I'll mix up the treadmill from time to time as best I can.
4. If I find I'm getting hungry, I will adjust my calorie intake to include some of the workout calories. I'll use a 4-to-1 ratio for adding in calories. For every 4 calories I burn in the gym, I get to eat one. This is not an everyday plan, just days I get really hungry.
I failed badly at getting to my goal of 330 by the end of February, but the good news is that I understand why I failed. Armed with this new knowledge, I'll reset my goals for March and see what happens.
