Marlow Is Driving Me Bonkers!!!
I love my daughter, don't get me wrong. She's everything to me. But lately she has been driving me up the wall!! I swear, 16 months is like 16 years. So much attitude!
She has developed this crazy temper out of left field. Except, maybe she inherited it from her dad, who had to take anger managment classes as a kid to learn to cope with his rage. He used to get incredibly violent, and his parents were worried so he took instruction on it.
She throws these horrible, hour long tantrums. They include hitting, throwing things, screaming, kicking, and finger wagging. I try to just leave her alone while she is pitching one, and that's about six times a day, but Joey likes to try and calm her. That seems to make it even worse! If she gets attention she kicks the fit up a notch.
Plus, she has gotten into this bossy stage. She is constantly wagging her finger(no one does that in this house so I have no idea where she got it from) and yelling at everyone and everything. Other kids come over and she starts yelling gibberish and wagging her finger. She will march over and take what they have and smack them. She also has taken to smacking the dogs when they bark or growl.
The soother is still a part of her nap time and bed time. But lately she has started to put two and two together, soother means bedtime. So she has been refusing it and I have been forcing it on her. Well, today was enough. I offered it once, she smacked it away, I put it back on the dresser and plopped her in bed. She is crying, has been for almost ten minutes, but I'm doing my best to not go in and try again. She has another soother somewhere, possibly in her bed, possibly under it. I didn't look that hard. She may find it and use it to sleep. She may not. I think this may be the start of the soother weaning.
And Joey, argh! We have different types of parenting, I get that, and I'm willing to discuss things, but after the fact. But her undermines me constantly. The other day Marlow went into the pantry and brought me a box of halloween smarties. I told her no, supper was in half an hour, put them away. She normally just puts them back, but she's learning too fast, and instead she brought them to daddy. Joey had heard me say no, but he opened them and gave them to her anyways. And when I got mad he shrugged and said 'what harm can it do?' I tell him what harm it can do, she is going to start playing us off each other. And it's always him who caves. I find myself being overstrict to compensate for his lack of rules and enforcments. I make Marlow say thank you when she get's something. I normally only have to ask once or twice, and she does say it, with a smile. Joey asks once half heartedly then gives it to her before she has a chance to reply. How is she to learn manners if no one enforces them?
I think she is just going through a stage. Plus, she only has 5 teeth, and one by one they are going to start coming through I think. So her mouth hurts. And we are starting potty training, or I was going too, but with her recent attitude I am thinking of holding it off. There is only so much of her itty bitty anger I can handle right now!
