Manic Depression To Bipolar To PTSD

Again I find myself sifting through the bowl of alphabet soup my damaged memory has made of the decades of psychotherapy I have used to recover from my childhood. The crisis of Faith is nothing new. Whatever the word set, Faith is hard to maintain over the bumps and contusions of life. When the question of whether to declare my BP dx an official misdiagnosis of PTSD, I declined on the basis that I found ALLOT of effective coping mechanisms during the decades of treatment for BP which I did not care to invalidate in an already harshly invalidated life.

Research triggered by harsh treatment in the BP forum here has me wondering anew if any of those tools came from BP treatment. Is the shift from Manic Depression to BP the official mark of where drugs became the only treatment available for the disorder? Excuse me. . . Meds. Must mind the political distinctions. Sorry folks. . . My age is showing. Never mind that in common dialog, people still go to the Drug Store to remain properly Med Compliant. I believe that even the strictest of med compliance enforcers still get their meds at the Drug Store. Again I am reminded of the morning my son ricocheted into hysteria because I was carrying my cup of coffee with me for a drug store run. His kindergarten teacher had taught him he should never let his parents drink and drive or use drugs. That was almost as fun as the round where I had to force feed him his ampicillan because he was Just Saying No to Drugs. I didn't force him until the routine bronchitis was complicating into pnuemonia. The wisdom was born in the same kindergarten drug education classes. Guess I should have been studying his kindergarten syllubus more closely.

I have researched many, many times to find the memory assist to help me sort this particular snot knot. The yaddahs are as obscure as what happened to the Home Economists of the 50's or when "Square" became "Cool." There were no official beginnings or endings. Was it a morphing process which happened so subtly that not even the most informed of the pros noticed it? I accept it as simple fact that I was too busy being psycho during that transition to notice. Nothing human was making sense to me during those years. Well. . . I reckon I still have serious problems making sense out of the civil yaddahs, whatever the social or political affiliation. It all seems to boil down to "We Right They Wrong." Whatever floats your boat, Cap'n. May I be dismissed now?

In the plus or minus a decade and a half since I was released from pro therapy, I have heard increasing numbers of rumors that Med Compliance is required for many support groups, with Court Orders to back the enforcement. Have we crossed the threshold where more piss is collected to ensure proper levels of drugs than illicit use of drugs? I have long wished that the politicians would just keep their specialties out of the therapy rooms. The changing of the guard from anti-drug officers to med compliance officers isnae hitting my just-a-patient senses as an improvement on the theme.

Gee. . . How did all those decades get mushed into a sloppy, bitter bowl of alphabet soup? Are the noodles mushing to mash? Should I just compost the whole mess? Give the psych gurus a section of my psycho baggage car next to the Janes and Johns of the Kiddie Whorehouses? I can't seem to keep either set of choir members straight. This morning both choirs seem worthy of disregard.

Sorting. . . Got pills?

Me, too, Chris. Just hoping. Not holding my breath.

At this point I would settle for a palatable broth and noodles that don't continually pierce my gums.

Another time you’ve hit the mark in describing something that seems so much like you’re speaking of my own history Arfie.

I’m still challenged to not call medications “drugs & pills”. And the “alphabet soup” strikes a loud echoing cord through me. For years, BP was my dx that covered up my PTSD & ADHD inattentive type, and the medication therapies just were adding to the issues of controlling my symptoms. But the tools I learned for managing BP still work after the dx was removed. Making sense of all that history though drives me to extreme levels of pulling my hair out. It’s seems like nothing but chaos and more chaos.

Huge hugs & lots of support Arfie.

hi arfie, I am really sorry you're struggling so. I hope you can find some distraction to lift your spirit.
I hope you can find answers that help you. That you get something out of. Peace.

The brave pioneers who reached out to me in the late 60's and 70's weren't so weighted with dx'es and compliance. They just cared. I feel posilutely villainous allowing those heroic visionaries to stew in the same broth with the drug/med compliance officials and piss testers.

The good news is that my therapy exercises are working well enough that I am about halfway through building the wood storage rack for the Tinker's Den. The doors and windows for the honey barn are scheduled for installation next week. I hope they match the cinder block stairs I built for the honey barn bee box shop.
