Making Changes

I made some great progress over the weekend. Got my bedroom cleaned and cleared out my closet... 3 lrg bags of clothes went to salvation army; nothing left but things I like that fit. I cleared the kitchen cupboards as well, packed away some dishes that were just taking up space and filled a bag with recyclables. I also gave away a bag of baby things that dd is not using anymore. To walk into my house it doesn't look any different to anyone else but it feels tremendously better to me. I still have work to do but teh biggest best change was just the change in my head... the mental attitude about my stuff that I was able to let go of. I was never attached to stuff before; I raised my kids with very little and I learned to be content with what I had. Since I started making better money I started to feel 'entitled' to more stuff but truth be known, it never gave me any satisfaction. I am learning (again) to think about how much of my life I have to give up to own something before making a decision to purchase it. Like my computer... I have 3... one of them needs more RAM and I almost bought it last week... but what do I need 3 computers for?? Really the one that needs the RAM is the best computer and I should sell the other two, buy the RAM and just use the one computer. So I didn't buy the RAM yet, I'll sell the pc I'm not using to get it, then I can transfer my files and sell this one I'm currently using. I get more satisfaction from getting a good deal and saving money than from buying something expensive that I don't need. I figure it would cost me about 2 hrs of my life to pay for a stick of RAM but by selling something I don't need I can get it for free and get rid of 'stuff' that is cluttering my life and stressing me out. Its hard to condense my thoughts and feelings into a simple writing exercise... its so much more than what I can put down in words....

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion; to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly. . .This is my symphony. - William Ellery Channing

Dear Lisa,
Your right, sometimes to many \"things\" just add way more confusion and blocks your view of the big picture!!! Good for you. Eric
