Major update.
So I recently met with an insurance broker (offers free help to people with getting set up on the government healthcare website in the US) to make sure I would still qualify for the cheapest insurance policy available in my state.
The news was pretty bad. The insurance companies operating in my state have raised their prices by around 70%, meaning I would need to be earning several thousand dollars more per year than I am actually able to at my job (even while working the maximum number of hours possible the entire year) just to qualify for health insurance.
That means I am forced to apply for Medicaid (which most doctors in my state refuse to accept). I may not even qualify for it (despite the Medicaid expansion my state finally got). And even if I do qualify for Medicaid I may not be allowed to keep all the money I've saved up towards moving out on my own and getting therapy. Apparently I would have to keep the money in my savings below a certain amount in order to have Medicaid. Keep in mind that I live in a state with an already high cost of living and medical bills here are about double what they are in other states.
I'm now trying to look into keeping the policy I've been able to have up till now, but if I do it will likely cost me a considerable amount more each month since they wouldn't be getting reimbursed by the government for selling me the policy. But at the same time it might keep me from losing ALL my money just paying for a month's worth of my medications (which I don't even earn enough in a month to afford out of pocket).
Ever since my mother found out about this development she has been angry and all over me about it. If it weren't for the expensive antipsychotic medication I got put on recently, all this added stress/anxiety would probably cause me to have a full-blown breakdown.
Pretty much the only good thing to come out of the meeting with my broker was learning that he has connections to someone high up in a franchise I would like to work for in the very near future, and that he is willing to let me use him as a reference on my job application.
If I could get the job it would probably be able to pull me out of this insurance pit I'm in. The franchise has amazing benefits for their employees, but you have to work there for half a year to a year before you qualify for the insurance benefits.
I'll be trying to apply for a job there sometime this month, but I'd prefer to start work after the holiday rush if possible (given all the stress/anxiety issues I'm currently dealing with). Hopefully everything will go well and I'll get a job there.
