Love can be innocent....

Wouldn't it be nice if life were as simple as it was in the first grade?  It's a pleasing thought that instantly brings relief to the soul.   My seven year old son is autistic.  He doesn't speak much, but is really very intelligent.  So this year, my H and I decided it might be best to try taking him out of special classes and seeing how he handled regular school.  Of course, I have been sooooo worried about his schooling, how he would handle the work, whether he would be able to make friends, etc.   a few days ago, he brought home a folded up piece of notebook paper.  I read it, and my heart fluttered.  On the note, written across the top in choppy, first grader handwriting, it said, "To Cody, From Jennifer."  Underneath that was a big heart that took up most of the page.   Now this Jennifer...she is a very sweet little girl, with hair just a blonde as my little boy's.  It reminded me of a couple of weeks ago when I took my kids to our local High School's football game, and Jennifer was there.  She came up and asked Cody if he would walk with her.  All night, she stayed by his side, chasing him and laughing, making him talk just as comfortably as if he were talking to me.  (Which is unusual for him!)   Okay, so I'm not some insane mom here who is already planning their wedding--don't want to even think about that! I'm just saying how wonderful it is to see that little bit of innocent love.  So sweet, pure, and unadulterated.  In my opinion, we should be taking cues from these little first graders about what true love is supposed to be...

That is such a sweet story. :0) My five year old is PDD-NOS with ADHD. So, I know about the worries. I currently have him in special Ed preschool and at the end of the year, we will have to decide to out him in reg classes or special ed for kindergarten, It\'s a difficult decision. (((Hugs)))..you sound like a great mom.

As you know, I am a teacher. I always say I learn more from my four and five-year-olds than they could ever learn from me! Their innocence is absolutely astounding, and it\'s nice to see someone else pick up on that.
