Love as explained by T.V.

Last night while watching TV, the definition of love was brought up.  According to the writers of the show, love is "putting someone's feelings above your own."  This lead to a jovial jab in the ribs from my wife.  This past weekend during our intimacy interview, she asked the question "when have you ever put me and my needs before your own?"  I was speechless, I couldn't think of a single thing, seriously struggled. In my head I'm thinking "I know I am a selfish person but am I really this fucking selfish?",  this was only made worse by her saying "I couldn't think of anything either."  It felt like a punch in the heart.  Laying in bed last night it finally clicked for me, I know I love my wife, I tell her all the time, but I haven't been showing her that I love her.  Just as I've told her I'm done lying and she asks to be shown because she doesn't yet trust the words coming from my mouth, I wonder if she questions if I do truly love her.  I'm sure her thoughts are something along the lines of "If he really loves me then why would he lie to me"  From this day forward I'm going to make a difference, I'm going to be the one to show her.
