Lots of Narcissism
It would have never dawned on me that there was so much unhealthy narcissism around unless I learned of it and that I was a victim of that. The other evening I was on the street and saw a man with his child. OK Let's GO! he said urgently. The man with all his urgency and no fire to extinguish was teaching his child vthat it was OK to cross the street on a red light, but to hurry because it is a risky behavior. But one the adult felt he had a right to practice and thus started to teach his child the same lessons. It is illegal to cross the street on red lights unless given the right due to exceptional conditions of a temporary nature. This man could have been given a ticket for crossing on that red light just to get to the restaurant on the other side 45 seconds sooner.....only to be told that all the seats were taken but one will be available in a couple opf minutes? The guy was really brilliant. The brilliance did not exemplify his intelligence. He just felt that he had the right to break the law and show the child how OK it was. But will the child, upon becoming an adult have the financial ressources cavailable to pay for all the tickets recieved for crossing on red lights just because the child, now an adult is in an imagined hurry, to get somewhere? This imagined hurry is made up for by slowing down the progress of emergency vehicules on an emergency. One facinating case showed up in front of my eyes on another occasion about a year ago duiring the summer. I was waiting for a bus at the intersection or just plain walking when I heard sirens coming my way from behind. It was an ambulance narrowing in on traffic stopped at a red light. The first car in the line of traffic blocking the ambulance to come was a police car waiting to make his left turn. Now THIS will be interesting I knew, since police will give others a ticket if they make a left turn on a red light, even if, seemingly, to open the way for an emergency vehicule with sirens activated. Well guess what. The police car made that illegal left turn on that red light to open the way for the ambulance to continue straight on down the road toward emergency scene or hospital. But if that happens to ordinary motorists they have to go through extreme agony because THEY can't do anything to unblock the way of the uncoming emergency vehicule. So the motto? If one wants to break the law, may it be for worthwhile reasons. But also why is not the public motorist informed of what to do in such a situation? What does the minister of transportation or the police have to hide from those who drive motor vehicules? Or is it entitlement, which in turn is a trait of unhealthy narcissism. Let's see: If I was a billionnaire or even a millionaire who drove a motor vehicule what would I have to loswe by getting continual tickets to pay because I illegally(?) openned the way for an emergency vehicule with sirens blazing by making a left turn on a red light for such a reason? I'd have the money to pay the tickets and I would have maybe done my part to save a life. But ALAS, those good ole demerit points will disappear. Isn't it easy to see how narcissism can be controlled? That is not the cure, but it controls. Alas a few days later such awesome law abiding motorists would think nothing of crossing the street on a red light as pedestrians because their imagined sense of urgency is more important then the security of other motorists having the green light. But narcissism is everywhere. And simply put unhealthy narcissism is a showing of the narcissist's insecurities, inadequacies, incompetancies that he wants kept secret. So entitlement, among other symptoms of narcissism is the way they use to keep those flaws a secret. It is really nice to know in my view. It means that I'm not the problem. They are somehow in a way that was not necessarily their fault.
