Lost in Time
A few years back I was taking a psychology course when my professor asked a young student if he knew who Cary Grant was. No, the student exclaimed. The young man was about 19, far too young to remember one of the greatest actors of the twentieth century. In fact, not one student knew who Cary Grant was. The same for Tony Randall, Milton Berl, Jack Benny, Deborah Kerr, Tony Curtis, the list goes on.
I guess what I'm getting to is that at some point everyone is forgotten. Doesn't matter how famous or beautiful they are. It saddens me on so many levels because my husband left behind two grandchildren. The boy is 6 and the girl 15 months. Already I can see the change in my grandson: He no longer asks when grandpa is coming back. No longer looks at his picture with sadness. My husband, the love of my life, is fading in his young mind. And in my granddaughter, he never existed.
So, I've got to learn to cope with this. Everyone is forgotten at some point or another. Even events in our own time. I was shocked to read that the first school teacher who was allowed to teach while pregnant was only allowed to do so in the early 1960s. Of course, a generation ago this fact would have been well known. But now it's lost in time.

Yes, it is a sad thing that all is forgotten. I, like you obviously, keep trying to learn new things and sometimes ask myself why? When we die it is all lost and I find that sad that life of acquiring knowledge is only for our use.
Sadly true....no matter how much we try to stop their fading away...we start to have a hard time remembering things about them...but the love remains.
You are right. There are so many people and things that have been forgotten. It\'s not fair but that is the way people are these days. You are a big famous star, die and then no body remembers you anymore. It is certain a sad think to dwell on. You have two grand children who will remember you and how you affect their own lives. You can bring grandpa to remembrance to them by telling stories about your late husband. It\'s the only way we can keep the people that have died and gone before us in rembrance of the young ones still here. All the best from Diane B.
