Losing A Pet Is Like Losing A Child... Really... I Don't Think So

I recently posted on Judge Alex's Facebook page... Perhaps I should have ignored what Judge Alex said, but it really hit me hard...  There was a two part episode of Judge Alex in which he likened the death of a pet to the death of a child... Like I said... it really hit me... Its not that I don't and haven't loved my pets in my life... but for me... no its not the same...
Please watch... its within the first couple of minutes that Judge Alex said that the loss of a pet that you took care of and loved so much is like the loss of a child...  I do believe the loss of a pet can seem like its like the loss of a child...  I've had both of those losses, and many others... for me... the loss of my daughter was beyond description worse than any loss I've had in this life... but I don't want to say its the worse thing that ever happened... because I don't want to find out I'm wrong... I still have a surviving son, 5 grandchildren, my husband... I pray I'm next... I don't want to lose anyone else... none of us do I know... its really rough but really there was no cause for the extreme ugliness of some of the comments that were made... Like Jill said... we're just going to have to pray for these people...

Glad you set him straight.

I agree, losing a child is far more heart wrenching. I probably would have said that before I lost Josh, but there is no comparison. When I consider other people who have not lost a child, I just think of the old saying, \"Ignorance is bliss.\"

It takes courage to speak up in a situation like that. You spoke in behalf of all of us who have lost a child & for that.... we thank you. Hugs dear SOTH......Vicki

There is no comparison. It can be dreadful to lose a pet. In fact our neighbours who had to euthanize their 23 year old cat were devastated. They have no children. However through her tears, Leslie said \"I know it is not as painful as losing a child, but it really hurts\". I was so touched by her comment as I know how much they loved Brutus.
I hear you about wanting to go first. My son called to say he needed to have an ultrasound and blood tests. I burst out crying and begged him to take better care of himself. He reassured me but any suggestion of a family member being ill terrifies me now.
We are at my son\'s and he worked out while we were shopping!
Take care.
Love and hugs,

Nothing can compare to loosing a child...loosing a pet - no even close. Don\'t get me started - I had a \"fiend\" try to tell me it was the same thing...I had to walk away...no comparison whatsoever. Thanks for setting him straight....Hugs, Ann

I am grateful that you are a truth teller and educating. To lose a child is the most horrific loss of a lifetime and no matter how much we love our fur babies does not compare. I have lost many animals and nothing has brought me to my knees like losing my son... Why someone even feels the need to \"compare\" seems so futile and unnecessary?! What is the point do you think? To try to make losing a child more \"relatable?\"

Loving care dear Elissa to your beautiful Cara and for you and gratitude that you are setting the record straight on this one!

That\'s a relative statement actually. Someone can be so emotionally attached to ANYONE or ANYTHING and when it parts with them forever, there can be an extreme sense of & feelings of emptiness. For me, there is NO COMPARISON. I\'ve lost a dog of 10 years. When he died I probably was sad & felt empty for a few months. Those feelings for the absence of my dog have vanished in a matter of months.

I lost a child that was only 3 1/2 months old. I never got to take her home. She\'s been dead now for 2 years. And I still cry for her.

So many people speak of things that they have absolutely NO knowledge of...I miss all of the pets I have lost and cried and sometime still do because I miss each of their personalities, but it nothing like losing my only child to murder. I have no other children, I will never be a grandmother all of these things that others just DO NOT GET We here on the For Moms Only group have to deal with every day.

It is like we have all said, \"unless you have lost a child, you do not understand\". Thanks, for standing up for all of us!!

Wow , This made my blood boil. What a stupid comment from a supposedly intellegsnt Man.. Then again, No Father takes the death of their child like a Mother does! They grew inside us for over 9 months, we loved them with every ounce of our being. They are forever in our cells. As they grew in our bodies their cells attached to ours. And still reside there. Forever, or perhaps until we die. I have My Daughter\'s Cat and I adore her. She has been with me for over a decade and I;m sure when she dies I will be a mess. But , there is no dsmn comparison to losing a child. My ex , Her Father./sperm donor was able to go to a wedding less then a month after her passing. And to Disney World , just a few months later, I, however wasnt able to get off my living room floor or lie in my bed that we used to laugh in.cry in. hold each other in. Judge ALEX is a moron, and ^5 to you Elissa for posting on his site.((((((((Hugs to you and Cara))))))))))My SOTH.

Nobody can ever understand the depth and intensity of loss, when our child transitions, unless they too, have endured itFor him to compare the two the way he did, just shows he knows \"jack\" about it in all actuality. You know, I know and the rest of the Moms here KNOW that it just \'aint so! \'ve lost every relation and by far, this is the hardestOthers underestimate the pain BY FAR!! which so often, just adds more suffering.
Losing a beloved pet can bring one to their knees (i should know) BUT the physical death of our child, has the pain power, to KEEP one flat- on- the- floor for a very prolonged period of time --and some never \"get up\".Love, Donna

Good for you. There are losses - and then there are losses. To compare the loss of a child to the loss of a pet is total $%^#@!*. I\'m sorry but some people just haven\'t experienced enough pain in their lives. Joanna x
