Lori's passing
Last Wednesday I returned to my office after doing morning home visits to learn that my young, lovely coworker, Lori Dawe had passed away in an accident. Lori was only 31 years old. Some DS members from Massachusetts, NH and Maine may have heard the story on the news. The night before, 1/12, Lori had left a Head Start event she had worked and was heading home to Derry, NH. It had been snowing and the roads had frozen and she hit an icy patch on Rt.121 in Hampstead, NH. She lost control of the car, ended up off the road and got out of her car to call for help. She was struck by the next car, a jeep, who also lost control of his car after hitting the icy patch. An off duty EMT stopped to help and Lori had already passed. The driver of the jeep, a 17 year old man with a passenger in his car was not charged. It was just a tragic accident. The EMT reported that the jeep's driver was screaming and inconsolable after realizing he hit someone.
A couple of my coworkers met me at the door to tell me that sad news knowing that I heard the sad news about my son while at work 6 years ago. We couldn't find a quiet place to go..all the offices at Head Start were filled with crying teachers and staff who were just devastated by the news.
Tomorrow is the wake and Wednesday our program is closing so staff can attend the funeral. Lori was a gifted teacher, always smiling and willing to go the extra mile for the children and families. She was fun to work with having a great sense of humor and sweet spirit. She was not married and had no children but she would have been an amazing mom! She is an inspiration and saw the world through a lens of love. Please pray for her mom and dad, Linda and William Dawe of Derry, NH. They were interviewed on the news and all of us moms here know what they are going through. Lori was the youngest of 5 children. I will invite Lori's mom to join FMO when I get the opportunity.
Please pray for the 17 year old that was driving the jeep too
Thank you for listening.
Love and peace to all,
Linda
